Hello, I've rejected your submission for varianting Lasswitz's novel to its russian title. In fact, it's the other way round. You should enter first one of the russian publications which will create a russian title, then variant it to the german original. If you want, I can help you trough the process. Анаконда

Hello, I'm sorry but I had to reject your submission as there would have been to much work to fit it into our standards. Among the main points: 1) the editors should be entered separately (Editor1, Editor2 etc... via the "Add Editor" button), 2) in this list only the "main" (fiction) editors should be entered not everyboby who's listed on copyright page, 3) the publisher's name usually does not contain the town, 4) we're not allowed to deeplink to the specified site, 5) we're not, for the time being, able to use author's names that are not in roman script so none of the contents can be accepted (note that for the cover artist you did OK), 6) as your book seems to contain one NOVEL (this one?), it should be entered as an OMNIBUS. Hello Omeganian, and sorry I had to reject your latest submission ! Two important things were wrong with it : 1) All authors' names in the contents must by typed in Roman characters. Look into the database and try and find the Roman equivalents of the Cyrillic names if they exist (e. g., Arthur Clarke for the first one, etc. If no such name seem to exist in the db, use a transcription in Roman characters. 2) Only use images hosted by ISFDB or by external sites which have given ISFDB explicit permission to link to them — or upload one you have in your own files. See here for a list of sites we have permission to link with.
Please try and redo your latest submission this way. We value every good-willed editor, so thanks for contributing and don't get discouraged if your first tries dont meet ISFBD standards : it's a longish learning process. FYI, I am currently working on changing the software to allow entering non-Latin author names "as is". I hope to have everything wrapped up and installed in August, at which point we will need to go back and change all previously entered records. If you plan to enter a non-trivial number of Russian books, I would recommend waiting until after the changes have been made. Ahasuerus 16:29, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Анаконда (redux)

Re-hello, I've approved your submission but made just one change to conform to our standards: deleted the function of the last two editors (note that if you want to give details about them this may be added to their biographic pages at author level). I took the liberty to add the cover artist that you first gave and upload a scan (if you want to try, help is here). The result is here. Now comes an hardest part. As you see, the contents (a NOVEL and some SHORTSTORIES) are not linked to their original titles. You must do this manually. For example, the Simak novel is (correct me if I'm wrong) this one, to link its russian translation to the american novel, you'll have to go at the title level of the russian title here, then click on the "Make This Title a Variant Title or Pseudonymous Work" link on the left, then enter the original title ID (it's the number at the end of the URL, in this case 1865) on the top part of the screen (as the original title already exists), then submit and wait for approval. This will have to be done for each text (except the two Klein short stories that we already have, this will another process). Are you ready to try this? Hauck 15:37, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Yes it's likely Dickson's text (see the german title for example), but exactly what author is given in the anthology? Same question for Pristley which is probably Priestley.Hauck 17:50, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Анаконда -- Converting author names

As you may have noticed, the ISFDB software has been changed and we are in the process of converting Romanized author names to their original form. After adjusting your verified Анаконда to follow the new standard, I have two questions:

  • Could you please check the spelling of the author names? FantLab states that Fredric Brown's name was translated as "Фредерик Браун" while your original transliteration was "Fredrik Brown"
  • Fantlab also lists Геннадий Ануфриев and Станислав Солодовников as the compilers and М. А. Зеленкова as the editor. Your verified record lists М. А. Зеленкова, В. А. Макаренко, and А. В. Русецкая as the editors. Could you please clarify where the last two names come from?

  • In "Anaconda", he's Fredrik. In the older anthology, it's Fredericc.
  • They are listed on the last page as the artistic editor and the technical editor (or whatever the proper terminology would be in English).Omeganian 04:59, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for checking! I have adjusted the record in Anaconda to use "Фредрик Браун". Re: "the older anthology", the only other ISFDB anthology with a Russian translation of a Brown story that I can find is Антология фантастических рассказов (1967). Is that the one that you had in mind? If so, could you please provide the Cyrillic spelling of Brown's name that it uses? The basic ISFDB data entry rule, which we have now extended to non-Latin author names, is that we try to enter titles and names as they appear in publications. We then set up variants and pseudonyms to tie everything together. We have already converted our Bulgarian, Ukrainian and Belorussian records and are knee deep in the Japanese and Russian ones :-)
Re: "artistic" and "technical" editors, the former sounds like it could be similar to an "art director". The latter sounds like a "line editor", although the details would depend on the way the publisher does things. Ordinarily we only credit these folks in Notes, if at all. The "anthology/magazine editor" field is reserved for the people who decide what will be included in the book/magazine, which in this case was presumably done by the compilers, "Геннадий Ануфриев" and "Станислав Солодовников". Антология фантастических рассказов

Hello, you have your verified Антология фантастических рассказов in a series called "Библиотека современной фантастики в 15-ти томах". The initial plan for the series was indeed to be 15 volumes but it ended up with 25 due to the interest. FantLab has some of the history. So I want to rename the series to "Библиотека современной фантастики". Do you have any objections? I will also add a note on the series explaining the name change and plans and so on.

Additionally, the full name of the anthology is "Антология фантастических рассказов английских и американских писателей" according to the listing. As we are usually looking at title pages, can you pull your book and see what is the name on the title page? As you have it verified, if the name as you have it is the valid one, I would like to add a note to the publication with the full name. If the title on the title page is more complete than what you have now, do you mind changing it? Thanks! Anniemod 02:15, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
