The Claws of Axos

Hi Susan, FYI I've just had to reject an edit that would have made the title record for Doctor Who and The Claws of Axos into a variant of its cover art. Probably just a mistake in entering the wrong title record number: I thought you were trying to variant the cover as it also appears in Chris Achilleos's Beauty and the Beast, but you've made that variant in another recent edit. Thanks. PeteYoung 01:02, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

grr ^-^ thanks I'll re-do that correctly if it needs doing Ofearna 10:58, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Alt-key bulletting

I removed the alt-key character that you added to this record to create a bullet. If you wish to add an HTML generated bullet (unnumbered list), please follow the instructions found on this page. Thanks. Mhhutchins 16:44, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Got it! Thanks! Ofearna 17:15, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Doctor Who and the Cave[-]Monsters covers

Because the titles are different ("... Cave-Monsters" vs. "... Cave Monsters"), merging the two coverart records is not appropriate. A variant needs to be used instead, just as was done for the book title. I've rejected your proposed merge and made a variant relationship between the two instead. See this parent and this variant (and Chris Achilleos' summary page) for the results. --MartyD 13:52, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Wow, one of them IS hyphenated! Ofearna 17:16, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Editing coverart titles

Good job noticing the discrepancy between cover and publication title and setting about fixing it. Two things to keep in mind when editing a coverart title:

  1. Be sure to leave the leading "Cover: " in place. (Sorry, I don't know the history for that practice).
  2. Make sure the title matches the publication's title.

I changed "Dr. Who and the Loch Ness Monster" to Cover: Doctor Who and the Loch Ness Monster. Thanks. --MartyD 14:01, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

I only use the "cover" if it's the COVER and not the cover art... Ofearna 17:17, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Changing verified records in Beauty and the Beast

I rejected a couple of submissions to remove "(original cover art)" from the content title records of this publication a day or so ago, with a request that you contact the primary verifier of the record. It is important that you read the reason why a submission is rejected. Now you've proceeded to change the rest of them in a few dozen submissions which I have placed on hold. I personally agree that the disambiguation is not necessary, but I'm not the primary verifier of the record. Since you've been unable to start a discussion with him, I've left a note on his talk page and asked him to join in here. Mhhutchins 18:13, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

I *am* the primary verifier...Ofearna 18:14, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Feel free to edit your verified record, but that's now what you're doing. You're editing title records that are included in more than one publication record. That's why they are greyed out which prevents you from editing them in an update of the publication record. Mhhutchins 20:27, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
You are the primary verifier of this pub, but your submissions also change the contents of my edition, so according to the "rules", you should at least have informed me. I don't think we have a standard for entering interior art in art books (maybe something to discuss on the rules and standards page?). I personally don't mind removing "(original cover art)" from the titles, but there certainly is no harm in discussing changes first. --Willem H. 20:09, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't realize it was going to change both versions... I was going to change "my" version then see if you wanted to copy ^-^
With another mod we discussed and for interior art if it's the COVER, it needs to say that, but if it's just the art we decided it wasn't necessary to have (Original Cover Art)... now what? (I'm on hold with NEBS...)Ofearna 20:24, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
As Willem says, it may take a full-fledged Rules & Standards discussion, but we may just get by with the current standards: INTERIORART records are given the title of the work they illustrate. There's nothing in the rules that say the title must be disambiguated. That would mean the parenthetical appendices could be removed. If Willem agrees, I will accept the submissions. If not, I'll keep the submissions on hold, and we can move this discussion to the Rules & Standards page. Mhhutchins 20:38, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
so, now we're waiting for Willem.... Thanks guys!!!Ofearna 20:41, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
As I said above, I have no problem with removing "(original cover art)" from the titles. Do approve the edits. --Willem H. 20:50, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Looks like it's all working now... Ofearna 17:17, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Cover art credit and publication dates

You added cover art credit to several Gor novels, including this one and this one, but you're not giving the source. Please go back to the submissions that updated pub records which I've accepted and add the source to the Note field. Thanks. Mhhutchins 02:35, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

In addition, you'd like to set the publication dates of several printings of Norman's Hunters of Gor from 'unknown' to certain years. But in some cases there was stated No printing date in book in the notes. How did you learn about the years of publication? Is there a reliable source? (You should always state the source for a publication date in the notes to the respective pub. -I've put the submissions on hold). Stonecreek 08:56, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
In any case, you should inform the primary verifiers - but wait until the matter is settled. Stonecreek 08:58, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
I tried to add the Complete John Norman weblink on each of those... that was my source.Ofearna 20:14, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
And I've just informed all the verifiers of the ones that were primary verified...Ofearna 20:19, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the information. I'll approve your submissions. Please do add the John Norman weblink. Only then a user has the chance to check for himself (we do add that extra information that is rarely seen on other sites!) Stonecreek 20:36, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
Done! Thankx Ofearna 17:36, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Doctor Who and the Cave Monsters title change

Hi. I rejected your proposed change of the title of Doctor Who and the Cave Monsters that would have added a hyphen, "Cave-Monsters". The cover has it without the hyphen, as does the title page in the the Amazon Look Inside for the Kindle edition. We don't go by covers, but between the two, that seems to be enough corroboration that this edition has been issued without the hyphen; and I can't find anything suggesting that the hyphen is present. We will need to wait until someone with the book comes along to verify or correct. --MartyD 12:24, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

I just checked... the only other one that does have a cover image is indeed hyphenated and this one isn't. Cool at least it's variant-titled. ThanksOfearna 20:23, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Many Bloody Returns anthology

Hi, I see you have verified Many Bloody Returns. I would like to add the Library of Congress number to the Notes page -- my copy has that on the copyright page as LCC: 2007011450

Also, ISFDB has the title of the story by Tate Holliday on page 265 as "Fire Ice and Linguini for Two" while my copy of the book has it as "Fire and Ice and Linguini for Two" on both the Table of Contents page and the beginning of the story. Do you see this as well? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BungalowBarbara (talkcontribs) .

Fire and Ice... it is!
I have also added the LCCN info to this -- the copy I have out from the library is the same edition and printing as yours and has that info. Also a note about where the cover artist is credited, and the Canada price.

Message leading to "Changes to Verified Pubs" page

Thanks for the message about Hunters of Gor. There's two things you did wrong though. First, please read the message in yellow on my talk page before putting another message on the "Changes to Verified Pubs" page, and second, when you add information from a secondary source to a publication record you must add a note about the source. I'll do it for my pub, but you should return to the other editions of "Hunters of Gor" and source the date! --Willem H. 19:36, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

On second thought it might be better to remove (change to 0000-00-00) the dates you changed. The 12th printing was from March 1977 (source: Locus #200), so it's highly unlikely that the (cheaper) 4th printing was from 1977 (I removed the date and added a note about the John Norman website), and even more unlikely that the 5th printing was from 1978. --Willem H. 20:03, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
But there are the Daw/Ballentine editions and the UK editions and other language editions. I was trying to get the notes in about these...Ofearna 23:03, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Pulphouse Hardback #3

According to Locus1, the story "Pieces of the Sky" appears in this publication, but on page 265. I've corrected the page number, but why do you want to remove it? Mhhutchins 22:49, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

D'oh! I deleted/rejected the pending... Thanks! Ofearna 23:07, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Cover art credit for The Complete Keeper Chronicles

What is the source of your proposed Mark Hess credit for the cover art on The Complete Keeper Chronicles? I don't see anything on Amazon, the only source cited, that would indicate who did it. On a related note, I know other moderators have also asked you to document secondary sources in the notes. Please take that request to heart. Not only should the sources be documented anyway, but when people aren't working with books in hand, we spend a lot of time trying to figure out whether changes are appropriate or not. Having the source documented makes that job much easier. Thanks. --MartyD 15:12, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

This is the same art that was used for the first book, Summon the Keeper... 03:59, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. I accepted the submission and added the information to the notes. I also concur with Michael's sentiments in the posting below. --MartyD 13:07, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Thankx!!! Ofearna 17:38, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Source, source, source

I'm holding a submission to add the title Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down to the database. Like so many of your submissions, you have given no source for the data. After doing research, I am ready to accept it, but will be removing the content record for the non-spec-fic story.

Now the reason for this message: I can't understand why it is so difficult for you to understand the importance of acknowledging the source for your data when adding or updating records. This puts an unnecessary burden on the moderator to research the submission before accepting it. So I'm going to say it one last time, and I will never say it again:

You must give the source for your data in the the record's "Note" field if you're not working from a book-in-hand. If you have the book, you must let the moderator know this in the "Note to Moderator" field.

This should have become second-nature by now, and I'm tired of having to constantly remind you. I will reject outright any future submissions which do not give a source for its data or does not let the moderator know that you're working from the publication. I don't like to go to this extreme, but you have given me no other choice. You may be lucky and get another moderator who is willing to research your submissions. I can't and won't do it anymore. Interior artwork "Durdane Trilogy" by Jim Burns in JB

I don't think that we should split interior artwork "Durdane Trilogy" by Jim Burns in JB. This is continuous piece of art and anywere in the book there is no information that it is three images. Denis 20:11, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Corrected it. If you have any suggestions, please, write me. Denis 18:27, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
I put it in as three since it was triptych-ed as three book covers... even tho it's one image. Mods? Ofearna 18:28, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
If it's presented as one singular piece of work than it should be credited as such: I approved of Denis' change. Hmmm, it could be argued that the three singular bookcovers are variants of this overall painting! What's your opinion, Susan and Denis? Stonecreek 18:54, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
I have written notes in Durdane Trilogy pub and created Durdane Trilogy series. Denis 13:23, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

The Science Fiction and Fantasy World of Tim White

Added some changes in to The Science Fiction and Fantasy World of Tim WhiteDenis 17:08, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello Susan, I approved of Denis' changes which consisted mainly of added material, but please do check the changes of titles on pp. 20 (now Bermuda Triangle instead of The Bermuda Triangle), 28 (now Glory Road (1) instead of Glory Road) & 48 (now A Scent of New-Mown Hay instead of A Scent of New Mown Hay). If those titles don't fit your publication, we are bound to rechange the titles.
However, in a second submission he proposed removing some titles (i.e. the titles on pp. 15, 58 & 59), presumably to insert other ones. But as you are primary verifier this needs to be discussed in detail with you, so I have put his submission on hold. Stonecreek 13:44, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
I want to change title of The Legend of GX-118 to The Legend of GX118 (to add new and to remove old) and to correct The Past Through Tomorrow. This is one singular piece of art with the title "The Past Through Tomorrow (Volumes 1 and 2)". And I want to change interior art's publication years with actual one.
To Christian: I have added second title Hearts of Fire by mistake. Denis 14:16, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
OK, I have removed the double of Hearts of Fire. Thanks, Stonecreek 10:42, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
Since you now seem to be online again, please take a look at this proposal. Stonecreek 13:36, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
All the changes match my copy of the book... Some of the added material (ie page 6, 7, 8...) while SF related was not ever published elsewhere, so I didn't include them, but since I consider Denis to be a great help, I can see why he added them.
BUT the untitled short fiction on page 139 that he's added is NOT in my book -- page 139 is a photograph by Matt White with a UFO painted on by Tim White and has never been published elsewhere-- may consider removing it or just changing it to interior art.
Also, now page 15 (the Legend of GX118 or GX-118) is duplicated and page 58 & 59 are both still there, even though he thinks it should be combined into one so he added it that way instead of changing what was there. Thanks~ Ofearna 19:57, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, pp. 15, 58 & 59 should now be fixed: after all, I had Denis' submission on hold while he was waiting for your response. I have asked him for his view on the content of p. 139. Stonecreek 07:53, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
Yes, this is interior art on page 139. My Mistake. Denis 09:30, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
Looks great now, I like how when one pic is the dip-tych or triptych cover to more than one book it's split up this way! Ofearna 17:42, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs

Hi, I have added some information to the Notes on Hunting Ground, namely the "edition," "number line" and "Canada price" stuff. Always a good idea to put this in before you verify a book. Thanks! BungalowBarbara 06:35, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

I suppose it's still pending, but OK; thanks Ofearna 07:55, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Fair Game by Patricia Briggs

Hi, I've updated the Notes part of Fair Game with information from the book (mostly). I've also added the map to the contents. It's always a nice idea to enter this before you verify the book, if possible. Thanks! BungalowBarbara 06:50, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Again, prolly pending, but OK; thanks Ofearna 07:56, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

HTML links

I fixed the link in The Art of Faery. The URL for the page being linked needs to be the value of the "href" attribute:

<a href="http://www.daviddelamare.com/little.html">A Little Night Music</a>

not the "target" attribute:

<a target="http://www.daviddelamare.com/little.html">A Little Night Music</a>

"Target" is used to tell the browser which frame to use when displaying the results of clicking on the link and doesn't tell the browser what the link is. As an aside, in links you put into the ISFDB (or its Wiki pages), you shouldn't ever use "target" as you might interfere with the software's display management. --MartyD 12:28, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

thanks... I tried using that "target" attibute so when users click on the link it'll open in a new tab and not take us away from sifdb... Ofearna 18:01, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

I've put your submissions on hold, because there's another user (BarDenis) pending on your answer to the topic he raised. Thanks, Christian Stonecreek 16:14, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

All of the submission you've put on hold have absolutely nothing to do with Tim White -- they're from the Charles Vess art book Drawing Down the Moon... Ofearna 17:51, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Humanx Commonwealth

I'm holding the submission to add "Perception" as #6 in the series, but there already is story with that number. You can't have two stories in the same series with the same series number, and you can't enter anything but whole numbers. Do you plan on renumbering the remaining stories in the series? Also, the link you added to the note field only goes to a page for Foster's short fiction. I could find no timeline on the page when I went to it. This may have something to do with the frames. Mhhutchins 23:33, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Before I started editing more I wanted to make sure that short fiction got whole numbers... I'll go and change all from that point on now Thanks!!!! Ofearna 02:11, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Don't use that link as your source for the numbering of the series unless you can link it directly to the list. As I said above, the link you gave was a link to a chronological list of all of Foster's short stories. I could see no series listing. Chronological publication isn't necessarily series order as demonstrated in the first five stories in the series. I'll accept the submissions but remove the link. You can update them with the source of the story order. Mhhutchins 02:34, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
http://alandeanfoster.com/version2.0/chronomasterframe.htm lists the entire Commonwealth universe, with the Humanx, Pip & Flinx, Icerigger and Commonwealth sub-series. Ofearna 04:23, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
I've created a bibliographic comments page for the series. You can use the chronology as the source for your numbering of the stories, but it's not necessary to link to the author's list. Mhhutchins 05:06, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Hope it's all OK now! Thanks so much for your help. Ofearna 17:46, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
There are two #6s and two #7s. I thought you meant to reorder them, otherwise it's an error. As I said above: You can't have two stories in the same series with the same series number. Mhhutchins 21:08, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Seven Wild Sisters

You've given the records on pages 70 and 71 the same title in this publication. If that's how they're titled in the publication, then you should disambiguate the second one by adding "[2]" at the end of the title. Otherwise someone's going to come along and try to merge the records. Mhhutchins 05:12, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

In both books this art appears in (Seven Wild Sisters by Charles de Lint and Drawing Down the Moon by Charles Vess) this is the way they appear -- one piece of art separated instead of spanning the fold. I'll use the [1]/[2] method. thanks Ofearna 17:47, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Use the ISFDB method of disambiguating only the second and later records with the same title. Mhhutchins 19:41, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
I see another moderator has already accepted the submission to add "[1]" to the first record. That's not policy, but I'm not going to worry about it. Mhhutchins 19:42, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
