Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern

Your submission note says "I have what appears to be this edition but with the Gutter Code P08 on Page 330 and it has xiii + 331 (+ 2 un-numbered printed pages) and without a ISBN or Book Club Number. Also there is no map in the edition I have."
Comments:

  1. We do not normally include the printed, but unnumbered pages after the story actually ends, unless they seem particularly important (e.g. some appendices). Those two pages are, presumably, the "Passes and Intervals" and "About the Author". So your page count actually agrees with the current record.
  2. Are you sure there's no Book Club Number? It would be on the back cover of the dust jacket, in the lower right corner.
  3. There is no map in the listed book record either, so we wouldn't expect to see one in yours.
  4. A new gutter code is always interesting! That would correspond to a printing in Feb. 1985, i.e. probably a 3rd printing. (The deciphering of these codes is at Gutter Codes.) Unlike regular printings of books, we don't record these as separate editions, but you should certainly add to the existing notes -- e.g. using the model of the last sentence in the notes now: "Verifier #2 has an edition with gutter code "O19" (May '84).". One place where we keep track of all of these known gutter codes is in the SFBC pages, and you should add your gutter code there as well.

Officially, I'll be rejecting your current submission, because it doesn't actually request any changes in the existing records. But you should update the notes and make a new submission. Fool's Errand

I have your submission on hold for a couple of things. Is there a number on the back cover: 13921? If there is no price on the dust jacket it is likely a Book Club Edition, even if not stated on the front flap [the SFBC stopped adding that slug line in the early 90s]. We have a record for the [SFBC] edition. The pub record fields, for any publication, never get notes added to them. That's what we have a "Notes" section for. If accepted as-is, your submission would create a new artist: "Stephen Youll (Jacket Illustrator)"; and while that may be true he undoubtedly wouldn't like his name being 'altered'. ;-) The fields for 'PubSeries' and 'PubSeries Number' are for Publisher's series such as Ace Doubles or Gollancz Masterworks/etc. not for Author series. Such series are entered at the Title Record level, never in an individual publication record. In this case that series already exists. --~ Bill, Bluesman 02:25, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
