Welcome!
Hello, Mred1122, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Help pages
- Field-by-field guide to entering new publications into the database
- Help:Getting Started
- What the ISFDB Wiki is for
- FAQ
- Wiki editing help - Tips on how to use the wiki-specific features when editing wiki pages.
- Wiki Conventions - How things are usually done on this wiki.
- Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki
Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.
Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.
I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:58, 13 August 2020 (EDT)
Cloak and Dagger
As Cloak and Dagger is a non-genre anthology, we would only list contents which are speculative fiction or by significant speculative fiction authors. The significant speculative fiction authors is easy. However, are any of these stories genre? Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:58, 13 August 2020 (EDT)
- Hello! I hope I'm in the right place - did not see a way to respond to your greatly appreciated comments and advice from the User page, wasn't sure if comments made directly on that page would go to you.
- I found the correct version of the picture for "Cloak and Dagger", but couldn't figure out how to submit it as a correction.
- Regarding the Self-Confidence book, I was just excited to find a book and author to be found nowhere on the site - kinda' forgot the main thrust of the database.
- Thanks very much for the site map - I've got a lot to learn. Hope my next submissions are a bit more within guidelines. ;)

- I moved the above from ISFDB:Moderator noticeboard to here. While it was okay you posted there, it's easier to keep conversations together for future reference. To respond to an existing conversation, you can click the [edit] all the way to the right on the same line as the conversation title. Regarding the Cloak and Dagger cover, once an edit is submitted, there is no way to change the edit. You have to wait for the submission to be processed and then make the update. Do you know which stories are genre? If not, no problem. I will accept and remove all but genre authors. I just don't want to toss out valid data if you do know. As for the Self-Confidence book, no problem. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:40, 14 August 2020 (EDT)
According to the inside flap of the dust jacket, "The range of the stories illustrates the evolution of spy fiction in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, from before World War I to the present." I'm not sure if espionage fiction would be considered speculative fiction, and I don't know which stories would be genre according to database guidelines. Apologies. - I have accepted the addition, but made the following changes:
- The pub type is anthology. A collection is when all the stories are by a common author(s).
- The editors names go in the Author line for anthologies. They will be displayed as editors in the final submission.
- Amazon image URLs have the underscores & everything between them removed.
- The title is marked as non-genre.
- All stories not in the database or not by genre authors have been removed.
- Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:03, 15 August 2020 (EDT)
Thanks for the feedback - it clears up a lot of confusion and provides information I probably should have known. Work in Progress... Mred1122 18:01, 18 August 2020 (EDT)
How to Develop Self-Confidence in Speech and Manner
I've had to reject the addition of How to Develop Self-Confidence in Speech and Manner as this is a non-genre book. We are a speculative fiction database. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 20:03, 13 August 2020 (EDT)
