Welcome!

Hello, Mmourato, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Hauck 20:37, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Making variants

Hello, I've rejected your submission for Versins' novel. In fact, it's the other way round. You should enter first the portuguse publication (which will create a portuguese title), then variant it to the french original. If you want, I can help you trough the process. Thank you and I would appreciate your help. The FAQ section says: "Translated titles are entered as Variant Titles of the original title" and then when I'm on the original book page there is a link that says "Add a Variant Title or Pseudonymous Work to This Title"! So I did this but apparently it was wrong. I must say that the FAQ is not very explicit.
Our jargon is probably not very clear (or intuitive). As indicated in the help "Adding a Variant to a Title" is a way to create a title record that is a variant which is not what you to do in this case. In fact, you wish to have A Invasão dos Marcianos (the translation) being declared as a variant of En avant, Mars ! (the original here). To realize this, you'll have to start from an existing record for A Invasão dos Marcianos. To create it, simply use the Add New Novel link and enter the data pertaining to the portuguese book. This will create a title record (for the "text") and an associated publication record (for the physical book). When this submission will be approved, you'll have to go at the portuguese title level and use the Make This Title a Variant Title or Pseudonymous Work link and enter the ID of the 'parent' title (here 1037082) in the upper part of the screen. This submission will create the link between the portuguese title (the variant) and the french title (the parent). Hauck 14:47, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
Ok, thanks, I'll try that. First let me congratulate you on this magnificent site. I've been using ISFDB for years as THE reference for SF books, and now I feel like collaborating and giving back something to this magnificent work. Cheers, Miguel
Thanks for your kind words. It seems that your submission was rejected by another moderator because there's already this pub that looks quite similar to the one you intended to add. If it's the same book, please verify it (by the Verify This Pub link) and, more importantly, don't hesitate to modify the existing data (e.g. the format and the title).
