Welcome!

Hello, Majackson, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Ahasuerus 01:53, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Galactic Derelict

I have reviewed and adjusted your Galactic Derelict submission. The date change from 0000-00-00 to 1959-00-00 was rejected because the "Year" field of a publication record captures the date when the given printing appeared and not the date of the first edition. This is an undated 1970s Ace reprint, so the date will have to remain 0000-00-00 until we find out when this printing was published. The Melvyl catalogs are often a good source of information for these undated Ace reprints, especially for Andre Norton, but, unfortunately, they don't have anything for this printing.

As far as the change of the Catalog ID field from "#27228" to "44127228125" goes, I moved the proposed code to Notes. 44127228125 is not an ISBN, but rather a composite string used by many paperback publishers in the 1970s. The last three digits represent the price, $1.25. The first three digits represent the ISBN group assigned to the publisher and the rest is the catalog ID.

Finally, I left a note on the Talk page of the primary verifier, User talk:Mgpb, to let him note that the Note field in the publication record has been adjusted -- see the link in the "welcome" message above for details on the cross-notification process. Thanks for editing and don't worry about any changes that moderators may make to your submissions, it's all a part of the learning curve! :-) Ahasuerus 02:05, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

The Demolished Man

The same operation was performed on the 7th Signet printing of The Demolished Man and the Note field was updated with "Combined SBN and price on the spine read "451-Q6225-095"." Ahasuerus 02:13, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

James Blish error

The ISFDB entry for James Blish's "Midsummer Century" identifies the book as a Collection; my copy of the book identifies/verifies it as a novel. I have no idea how/where to submit a change. MAJ

Hi! Best to post questions / problems like this at our Help Desk.
Since I also own a copy of this book I may qualify to answer your question. It is true that the DAW edition states this as a novel (I think on the title page, though I'd have to dig my copy out to take a look to verify), but if you look at the last pages of it, you'll find that there are in fact two more pieces of shortfiction that were previously published, and that the title piece only is of novella length. So the publication is stated by the publisher erroneously as a novel (but is a collection). Hope that helps! Stonecreek 23:50, 11 May 2020 (EDT)
