Welcome!

Hello, Lewmarschall, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Ahasuerus 12:23, 28 July 2020 (EDT)

Tempel des Leids

Thanks for submitting Tempel des Leids and sorry about the delay in processing! After approving the submission, I made the following changes:

  • Changed the value of the "Image URL" field to "https://www.amazon.com/images/I/51bw8yu0I1L.jpg", the URL of the cover image
  • Moved "http://lewmarschall.com" from the Publication Note field to the automatically created author page.
  • Removed the German-language synopsis (also available on Amazon) as per Template:TitleFields:Synopsis, which says that synopses "must be in English, even if the title's language is not English." If you could submit an English-language version of the synopsis, it would be great.

Could you please review the results to see if everything looks OK? Also, since you appear to be the author, could you please clarify how many words the book contains? As per Template:TitleFields:Length, we treat texts with less than 40,000 words as novellas as opposed to novels. 105 pages suggests a word count of a bit under 40,000, but it could be either way depending on how many words each page contains. Finally, Amazon.de lists "€6,95" as the book price. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance! Ahasuerus 12:23, 28 July 2020 (EDT)

Thanks so much.
You are right, word count is <40.000 and it should be a novellas type then in the length field.
But it doesn't allow me to change it. I would need to make the type SHORTFICTION but that leads to inconsistencies with the main record which I cannot resolve.
Further more, I cannot see the synopsis field on the form. How can I add or edit it?
Sorry for my clumsy response. :/
Thanks for your support. Lew Marschall
No problem! The process of changing a novel record to a short fiction record requires a number of steps when there are standalone publications involved, so I have made the change for you.
Please note that standalone publications of short fiction works are entered in the database as "CHAPBOOKs", a special record type used by the ISFDB and some other bibliographies -- see Help:How to convert a novel to a chapbook for details. A CHAPBOOK is effectively a single-story collection and appears on authors' Summary pages in addition to the story itself.
Re: the synopsis, you can enter one by accessing the title record and clicking Edit Title Data in the navigation bar on the left. Please note that the ISFDB database distinguishes between "title" records and "publication" records. "Title" records are effectively separate texts. Anything that has to do with the title/text itself -- its language, series, length (for short fiction), the date of first publication, synopsis, etc -- is entered into that title's record. "Publication" records are used to capture edition-specific information like price, ISBN, catalog ID, format (electronic vs. paperback vs. hardcover), the date of that particular edition, etc. A single title/text can have multiple publications/editions. Conversely, a single publication/edition can contain multiple titles/texts, especially if it's a single-author collection or a multi-author anthology.
Hope this helps and thanks for contributing! Ahasuerus 09:08, 31 July 2020 (EDT)

Höllenhund

I have approved the addition of Höllenhund and made the following changes:

  • Removed "http://lewmarschall.com" from the Publication Note field since it's already listed on the author's Summary page
  • Removed Amazon's image framing codes from the "Image URL" field. The change will ensure that the publication page displays the image without a frame around it.
  • Changed the value in the "Format" field from "pb" to "tp". As per Template:PublicationFields:Format, "pb" is used for paperback books which are "7" × 4.25" (18 cm × 11 cm) or smaller. According to Amazon, this book's dimensions are 20 cm × 13 cm, so it's a "tp" in ISFDB terms.

Could you please review the results to see if everything looks OK? Also, is the list price "€14,99" as displayed by Amazon.de? Thanks! Ahasuerus 15:16, 28 July 2020 (EDT)
