Welcome!

Hello, LawrencePerson, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 06:02, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Swanwick's "Tumbling"

Thanks for adding a publication record for this work. There are a few problems with the record as submitted which I will correct based on the ISFDB entry standards, most of which can be found on this help page.

  • Authors names should be given as they are credited, so I'll change "Swanwick, Michael" to Michael Swanwick so that this work will appear with all of his other works on a single author page.
  • When giving publication dates, we try to be as specific as possible. So looking at the author's blog, I see he announced the publication on November 11, 2013, which is entered into the publication record in the format YYYY-MM-DD: 2013-11-11.
  • The page count field should give the number of pages, without description. We ordinarily do not count the front and back covers of a publication (except for magazines). The publisher calls it a twelve "page" short story. Because of the unusual circumstances of this publication, I'll let your 14 page count remain, but remove the description. I've moved the description to the Note field.
  • When entering the Price field, you should enter both dollars and cents, so I've changed it from "$10" to "$10.00".
  • CHAPTERBOOK-typed records require a content record. I've added a SHORTFICTION content record of the same title as the publication.
  • One last point: the files which are linked in the Image URL field draw bandwidth from the server which hosts the file. Because many websites refuse to handle such "deep-linking", we are required to have explicit permission from the owner of the website hosting the image file. I'm assuming you are the owner of www.lawrenceperson.com and can give us this permission, with the knowledge that each time an ISFDB user visits this publication's page, the file on your website will be accessed and displayed on the ISFDB, drawing bandwidth from your website's server. If you do not wish this, you can upload the image to the ISFDB server, keeping the uploaded file to the upload standards of no larger than 150 kb, and no more than 600 pixels dimensions on the longest side.

Thanks for contributing. If you have any questions and need to respond to this message, click on the "[edit]" link to the right of this post, and enter your response in the dialogue window that opens. Thanks again. Mhhutchins 06:24, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Excommunication

Hello, I've approved your submission because this text is listed here (but not in other Aldiss' bibliographies). As you choose a CHAPBOOK container type (you were right), I've added the corresponding SHORTFICTION record and varianted the lot to our canonical name (Brian W. Aldiss). BTW can you confirm that the author's name is given without initial? The result is here. Thanks for contributing. Hauck 06:43, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

The R.B., G.K.C., and G.B.S. Forever Orient Express

Hello, I've rejected your submission as we're not allowed to deeplink to the specified website, the image was also too large (max 600 pixels). I've resized it, uploaded into our server and linked the lot. Hauck 10:53, 6 January 2018 (EST)

Exhalation and Forced Perspective

Hello, I've accepted your submissions here and here, but had to make the following corrections:

  • Added currency and cents to price (price in USD is always as $x.xx)
  • Removed Image URL since we are not allowed to directly link to subterranean press' website (nor to your own website for that matter :)). Best practice is to upload an image to the ISFDB, and link that one. That way we're sure that we'll always have the image available, since external sources may vanish, or alter their links at any moment. I've resized the image to max 600 px (largest allowed dimension), and uploaded to the ISFDB.

Smoke and Mirrors

I approved you changes to Smoke and Mirrors, but had to delete the fill on ISBN. If there is no ISBN given, just leave that space blank. Bob 20:19, 12 March 2021 (EST)

Robert Silverberg: The Ace Years, Part Three

I accepted your second edit to Robert Silverberg: The Ace Years, Part Three. A couple comments:

  • If you make an error in a submission, you can self cancel it by going to "My Pending Edits", selecting the edit and then there will be a cancel option. That avoids confusion and ensures the correct submission is the one that gets accepted.
  • I made a couple changes to the Foreword. First, it is "Foreword" (as confirmed by the Amazon Look Inside) and not "Forward". This is a common typo that happens. Second, it is entered as an ESSAY. NONFICTION is only used for publication types. And then for generic titles like Introduction or Foreword, we add the book titles in parenthesis to disambiguate them all.

Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions. -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:31, 10 July 2021 (EDT)

My Brother's Keeper

I approved your submission adding the numbered edition. I did make a couple changes.

  • Price requires a currency symbol and for USA decimal places.
  • Added link to the relevant publisher page & a cover image.
  • Massaged the notes a bit.

Here is the result. John Scifibones 12:27, 2 March 2024 (EST)
