Welcome!

Hello, Larrylagarto, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins|talk 23:21, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Feast of Laughter #2

I'm going to accept your submission updating this record, but there are quite a few items which will have to be corrected which I will outline below. (These corrections are based on the ISFDB standards which are linked in the Welcome section above.)

  • The title of the cover art must match the title of the publication, so that will be changed. (Actually, you added a second cover art record which will have to be deleted.)
  • The generically titled introduction and contributors' piece will be disambiguated, e.g. "Introduction (Feast of Laughter, Volume 3)".
  • All of the contents which you typed as NONFICTION will be changed to ESSAY. The former type is for book-length nonfiction works. The latter type is for short nonfiction works which are contained in a larger work (like collections or magazines.)
  • The titles of the review records will be changed to the title of the work which is being reviewed, not the title of the review.

Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins|talk 03:44, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

I changed a number of titles to conform with the title pages of the essays. I guess you took the titles from the contents page, but the title page is leading. Also changed the pagenumber for the introduction from 'iv' to 4, changed a number of dates (we record the date of first (book) publication, not the copyright date), added notes on pub- and titlelevel, interiorart, introductions etc., and made a few other minor changes. Please check if you have a chance. Thanks, --Willem 13:22, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
Copied from my (Willem H.) page: Thank you for catching and repairing small errors in "Feast of Laughter #2".
No problem. Do remember to end your comments with four tildes (~~~~), which will automatically "sign" and date your message. We also try to keep discussions in one place, so if you respond to a message, click on the "[edit]" link to the right, and enter your response in the dialogue box which opens. Start your message with a colon (:) which separates and indents it from the previous message making it easier to follow the discussion. In successive messages, add another colon to the number in the previous message. Thanks for contributing! --Willem 18:49, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Notifying primary verifying editors of changes to PV'd records

It is ISFDB policy to notify the editors which have primary verified publication records before making a change in it. In the case of this record, I was the editor who verified the record (go to the first row of the Verification Status table), so I'll accept the type change for "The Prybar Spiel". I had mistaken the long introduction as the entire work, so I typed it as ESSAY instead of SHORTFICTION. In the future, if a publication record has been primary verified, please post a message on the talk page of the PV editor before making an edit. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 00:55, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Feast of Laughter #3

I made the same kind of changes to this issue as I did for Feast of Laughter #2, a lot of minor changes and notes. Please check if you have a chance. Thanks, --Willem 19:03, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Feast of Laughter Volume 4

Hello,I've approved your submisison but had to make some changes to conform to our standards:

  • added comma in title.
  • deleted SeriesNum (not used in the case of a magazine).
  • deleted webpage (it must be about the issue not a generic URL).
  • changed date to 2017-02 as we use the cover date for magazines, here "Feb 2017", so I was forced to change nearly all the contents' dates (you set them mostly to "2017" and some to "2016", remember that we do not use the writing date but the publication one) => decided to change all "2017" & "2016" to "2017-02".
  • changed ISBN-10 to ISBN-13 (mandatory since Jan 2007).
  • added currency symbol (remember that we're an international outfit and not everyone lives under the US dollar rule).
  • resized and uploaded a scan into our system (your provided link didn't work and we're not allowed to deeplink to the specified website).
  • in the case where an illustration directly illustrates a story, its title is the one of the story (I've corrected this for The Rod and the Ring).
  • merged and varianted as needed.
  • changed some types from NONFICTION to ESSAY (this point is already evoked above).

The result is here. Note that as your submissions need a lot of work to be brought up to our standards (I've been on it nearly for an hour without pauses for approval as I'm a moderator). To be frank I'm not that satisfied with the result due to your dating strategy: for example you dated "1982" this review but is this relative to the review (if so, where is the first publication?) or to the reviewed title (if so and this is a "new" review, it should be dated 2017-02)? Idem for this interview that may be related to the one contained here and that one may be related to the second item here. Thanks for contributing but please study the help pages and take some time to chase the already existing items. Hauck 04:35, 15 August 2017 (EDT)

I corrected a number of dates (we use the date of first publication, not copyright), and in some cases added notes about the first publication. Also varianted some items to their originals, corrected the name of the cover artist, the number of pages, changed "A Crocodile Who Wanted to Fly" by Yakov Varganov from shortfiction to poem and added pub notes. Please check this when you can. Thanks for entering this one! --Willem 12:12, 18 October 2017 (EDT)
Ps, the review of "Aurelia" is now here, and dated 1983-07-00, the date of first publication in Foundation #28. --Willem 12:18, 18 October 2017 (EDT)
