The Red Peri

I accepted a submission to make a significant change this record too fast before noticing that you'd done a primary verification of it. It changes the title of the story from "Revolution of 1950" to "Revolution of 1960". Did I do the right thing? Thanks. Mhhutchins 21:24, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

My mistake, the change is correct. Thanks!Kraang 01:38, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Appreciate it. Mhhutchins 02:25, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Cover artist for The Towers of Utopia

Artist for this pub is Bruce Pennington, based on the credited use of the same cover art here. I'll update the record. Mhhutchins 18:24, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Cover art credit for Toyman

Thanks to Tineye, I found the cover artist credit of this publication. Mhhutchins 21:43, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, it wasn't Tineye. It was my own memory of the unusual cover art when trying to find the original publication sources for the covers of NEL's Science Fiction Monthly, all covers of which were reprinted from earlier book covers. Mhhutchins 21:46, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Hull Zero Three Bear 2010

Hi, my copy of this pub you verified has 307 pages, ending with the chapter 'Penance and guidance'. Is your copy different ? Bye --Pips55 23:51, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

307 pages, will change. Thanks!Kraang 01:07, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

A Jungle of Stars Jack L. Chalker 8th printing

Hi, could you check a cover of this pub? Is it the same with this cover? If yes, could you scan it, please. I didn't find it in the web except this terrible scan. Cover artist is Tim White BarDenis 19:29, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

I'll dig it out and upload a scanned image on monday. Thanks!Kraang 02:31, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you! Added cover artist. BarDenis 18:55, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

adding a book that is borderline SpecFic

Sometime probably this weekend I'm going to add 2 books by Jude Deveraux that are definately SpecFic Romance but would like your opinion as to whether I should add two others. They're both what I consider borderline SpecFic. They're Montgomery/Taggert books involving a family tradition of naming all girls with the "sight" Christiana and how that tradition got started. In the first book, Velvet Angel, we meet the 'original' Christiana and see how the tradition got started. Kinda. Then, in Temptress, we learn that even if a girl is birth-named something else, if she shows any sign of sight (this Christiana ordered everyone out of a church minuted before the roof collapsed so no one died or was hurt) and her name was immediately changed. The precognitive storyline is tertiary to the story and not central, but I wonder if I should add them?

The other two books I'm definitely adding are Wishes (about a woman in purgatory who has to help a girl get her life to match her "pure" soul) and Always, the third book in a trilogy about hunting down the witchborn sister of one of main romantic leads of the trilogy.

Thanks for your advice.Ofearna 06:08, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

If the "sight" actually happens in the story line then it falls under paranormal activity and should be add to the data base.Kraang 01:20, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks. At work our accountant comes tomorrow so it'll likely be at least the weekend before I can add these.Ofearna 18:45, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Omega - pub date

As you are the originating verifier of McDevitt's Omega, can you check the publication date for this paperback. It is listed as October 2004, while my copy states November 2004. Thanks. --John L.-- Syzygy 02:08, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Your correct! I typed in "10" instead of "11", will fix. Thanks :-)Kraang 02:20, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Conqueror's vs. Conquerors'

Please check to see that the placement of the apostrophe is outside the "s" and not inside in your copy of Timothy Zahn's Conquerors' Pride. Looks like a simple typo. Syzygy 12:33, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

It's a typo, fixed. Thanks!Kraang 23:43, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

WASP - Eric Frank Russell

I want to add a cover artist to your verified publication of WASP. I also have a copy and the notes mention a signature of a B inside a circle. Upon closer inspection, there is also a smaller B to the left and an S to the right, for BBS. I'm thinking this could be Barclay Shaw, seeing how he is credited at the bottom of the copyright page! (Sorry, I couldn't resist) Anyway, I'd like to fill that field for this pub, if it's okay by you. John Syzygy 00:31, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

That's fine add the artist. Thanks!Kraang 01:11, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

The Chessmen of Mars

I have been adding the essay "Jetan, or Martian Chess" to the US editions of Burroughs' The Chessmen of Mars per Henry Hardy Heins' A Golden Anniversary Bibliography of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Heins states that the 1963 Ballantine edition includes this appendix. Could you check your copy for this appendix? I've also noticed that your copy was printed in Canada. I've seen other copies of Ballantine books from this era where we have copies printed in either Canada or the US. When I've encountered your Canadian printing and no US printing is present, I've considered adding a US edition based on the secondary sources I'm working from (none of which detail separate Canadian Ballantine printings). However, I have hesitated to do so, so far. I'm fairly certain US printings exist. Do you think we should go ahead and add them? Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 14:03, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

My copy is stored away so I'll dig it out on Monday. I added the printing for all my early pb's to record there existence. The later ones are priced higher to reflect the difference in the currencies. I would strongly suspect that the US printing's are 100% and the CDN printings are less than this. After the mid 90's almost every pb I've owned is printed in the US. The CDN printing probably had something to do with earlier distribution and then later Canadian content laws. A lot of them say "Printed in Canada/Cover printed in U.S.A". This looks a lot like something done to protect the printing industry and Canadian content law.Kraang 01:30, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Heinlein dates

An interesting source of information has given me the dates for the first Ace printings of the ten Heinlein juveniles. Apparently Ace published one a month from Sept.'70 until June '71.

  1. Tunnel in the Sky 9-70
  2. The Star Beast 10-70
  3. The Rolling Stones 11-70
  4. Rocket Ship Galileo 12-70
  5. Red Planet 1-71
  6. Between Planets 2-71
  7. Have Space Suit - Will Travel 3-71
  8. Time for the Stars 4-71
  9. Space Cadet 5-71
  10. Citizen of the Galaxy 6-71

So, I'm going to update the records, citing a Mr. Stuart Wells. Figured one message was better than ten! He had an ad on AbeBooks selling the fine lot and noted he bought and bagged them when new, so they've never been read. I asked if he knew the order, and he answered! --~ Bill, Bluesman 23:16, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Cover art for 'Blade Runner'

I'd like to change the cover art credit for this verified pub to "Drew Struzan", who is well known to have created the artwork that appears on it. The Ladd. Co. were producers of the film and just hold copyright to the image. PeteYoung 23:49, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

That sounds fine, submit the change. Thanks!Kraang 02:12, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Williamson's Star Bridge

I added a cover artist to both your copies of Jack Williamson's Star Bridge (and [1]), as well as a note to their source. The Williamson collection does date Star Bridge as 1962, but and I have detected other small errors, but I'll assume they got the artist right in this case. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 15:17, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Wraith Board

Hi! Could you please check the spelling of artist's name in this verified pub. I suspect it might be "KInuko", or we need to add a pseudonym to this chap. Cheers, P-Brane 01:15, 22 May 2012 (UTC).

Hi! I checked the pub and the spelling is correct.Kraang 01:43, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Tanar of Pellucidar

I added the publication month to Burroughs' Tanar of Pellucidar and a note as to its source. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 01:31, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

The Confederation Handbook

The cover art at The Confederation Handbook is by Chris Foss, not Jim Burns. You verified; has someone changed it? Ofearna 08:40, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

My book credits Jim Burns on the copyright page. What source is your info from?Kraang 00:51, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Deletion of scripts

What is the purpose of deleting books of scripts based on science fiction TV shows and movies? I think the ISFDB policy allows such books into the database. Mhhutchins 02:27, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

A bunch of script books were deleted last year if I recall correctly, such as it was some of the titles had no pub attached.Kraang 02:35, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

Alien Dust

Hi! Added cover artist (Gerard Quinn) to this verified pub based on data in this book. Cheers, P-Brane 07:46, 18 July 2012 (UTC).

The Sleeping City by E. C. Tubb

I have a question about this publication (http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?223949). I bought a copy of this book when it was first published way back when. If you go here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/0966896815/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_0?ie=UTF8&index=0&isremote=0 you will find my cover image. It is different than the cover image that you have on your entry. All the stats are identical in every respect otherwise. Who has the right book? You? Me? Or both of us? Cataloging print-on-demand books is such fun. MLB 11:49, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

I bought mine when it came out and It's the same as yours. The displayed image must be for the cuurent POD version. I'm going on holidays for a couple of weeks so if you want, upload an image of your book and submit it or I'll put mine aside and do it when I return. Thanks!Kraang 00:32, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Mad Empress and Mind Wizards of Callisto

I added Vincent Di Fate as cover artist to your verified Mad Empress of Callisto and Mind Wizards of Callisto, plus notes about the source. Thanks, --Willem H. 15:04, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Return to Camerein

Hello, I've added a scan for your verified here, but also changed artist first name from David to Dave as per copyright page. Hauck 16:57, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Beyond the Barrier

Hi, I've added cover artist Jack Faragasso to this edition. Thanks, Horzel 09:29, 1 November 2012 (UTC).

Lem's The Futurological Congress

Can you confirm that the subtitle as given on this book's title page is not given in parentheses? Thanks for looking. Mhhutchins 04:32, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

I'll check it on Sunday. Thanks!Kraang 02:12, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
It's in brackets like the others. Will fix. Thanks!Kraang 23:55, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Planet Big Zero

Could you take a look at your copy of Planet Big Zero... mine has a cover price of 40c whereas your verified pub says 35c, so this may mean my copy was a second printing. Cheers. PeteYoung 09:58, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

I'll have to dig it out of the storage box on monday night. Thanks!Kraang 00:07, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
The cover price was $0.40, how I entered it as $0.35 I don't know. All fixed now. Thanks!Kraang 02:44, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Kasp[e|a]r's Box

I noticed your verified Kasper's Box uses an "e", but the cover image shows an "a", and the publication is hooked to a title using "a". Kevin has 2-verified it, so I didn't want to change the pub's spelling without asking. Thanks. --MartyD 12:46, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Just a typo now fixed. Thanks!Kraang 00:23, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

"The Third Lynx", by Timothy Zahn

Your verified publication had developed a broken link for its cover image. I replaced that with another Amazon link, but you may wish to verify that this is the correct cover image. Chavey 22:37, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Sundiver

Re: Sundiver
The notes say that the artist's signature cannot be found on the cover. I think I found a signature, but I'm not sure. Just beneath the subtitle "The Ultimate Voyage" seems to be a series of letters that I can't read. Just to make sure that it is not an aritfact of my copy, I found another image here. That image also has those same letters. They are very faint. Could you look on your copies to see if they are there as well? I'm notifying the other verifiers of my find.--Astromath 00:25, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Further examination under high def scanning the letters seem to spell Jim something or other. I think it may be Jim Burns who did the cover of the 2nd volume, Startide Rising.--Astromath 00:33, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Had a careful look at my copy and can't find anything I would identify as letters. Later printings might have a slightly different cover. Sorry!Kraang 01:51, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

The Tartarus Incident

The notes for The Tartarus Incident include "Stated 1st printing of 1983 Ace ed."

I don't see that statement. I uploaded a scan of the copyright page for my copy to Image:THTRTRSNCD1984-copyright-page.jpg.

I'd like to change the publication note to:

  • States "Ace edition / May 1983". There is no number line or other printing indicator.
  • Amazon.com reports the printing date as "May 5, 1955." The publication's copyright is "Copyright © 1983 by William Greenleaf" implying Amazon has the wrong year.
  • The publisher/imprint name is stated as "Ace Science Fiction Books" on the title and copyright pages and as "Ace Science Fiction" on the front cover.
  • There are six unnumbered pages before page 1.
  • The cover artist is credited on the copyright page. A signature is not visible.

I'd also like to change the page count to [6]+202. --Marc Kupper|talk 05:59, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

The change is fine.Kraang 01:48, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Bottled Brains

Hello, in the title of your verified 4487 is there the second "the"? Cheers, ForJohnScalzi 01:48, 4 March 2013 (UTC).

Sorry, I ment the third "the", one before bottled brains. ForJohnScalzi 01:50, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

God Emperor of Dune

Does your copy of [this] state "Printed in Canada" or had you intended the note to read "Printed for Canada"? I ask because I have what appears to be the identical edition, same ISBN/price etc. but it says "Printed in the US", though I think it was printed for Canada. Thanks! --~ Bill, Bluesman 16:39, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

What price is on the cover?Kraang 00:08, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
$4.50 --~ Bill, Bluesman 17:41, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
Baen did this sometimes. This would mean two US 1st printings one priced for the States($3.95) and one for Canada(C$4.50) and my printed in Canada with the Canadian price.Kraang 00:30, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
At least Baen would black out the US price so one would know. Just wanted to see if we had the same edition before creating another record. Thanks for checking. Cheers! --~ Bill, Bluesman 14:14, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

2010: Odyssey Two

Think I have the same edition as [this] but the price is $4.75. Typo?? Thanks! --~ Bill, Bluesman 15:52, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Caliban's War by James S. A. Corey

The last numbered page in my copy of Caliban's War is 611, and by ISDB standards that should be listed as the page count. And the cover artist is given on the back cover as Daniel Dociu.

Also, I'd like to change the Notes to read:

  • "First Edition: June 2012"
  • First printing per number line 10—1
  • Canada price C$17.50
  • Cover artist per back cover
  • Exact publication date 2012-06-26 from <a href="http://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/james-sa-corey/calibans-war/9780316129060/">publisher's Web site</a>
  • under title on title page: "Book Two of the Expanse"
  • LCCN: <a href="http://lccn.loc.gov/2011031646">2011031646</a> per copyright page
  • The novel itself ends on p. 595. "Acknowledgments" are on p. 597. The remainder of the book contains "Extras" beginning on p. 599.
  • The "Extras" section includes: "Meet the Author," p. 601; "Introducing: Abaddon's Gate" p. 603-611 (an excerpt)

Does this match your copy? BungalowBarbara 03:04, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

That's fine I only verified the copy haven't gotten around to updating the info. Thanks!Kraang 03:23, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
