Welcome!

Hello, Jroneill, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --MartyD 10:37, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Author credits and secondary source handling

Hi, and welcome. I have a question about your proposed artist credits for the two issues of Science Fiction Stories: What is your source for the credits? Are they in the magazines, or did you get them from somewhere else? If they are not explicitly credited, we record the source of the credit in the notes (e.g., "The Turning Wheel" illustration not credited but signed "Freas" or "The Turning Wheel" illustration not credited but appears on http://www.kellyfreas.com/) -- we do this whenever a secondary source of information is used for any of the data, which happens fairly frequently for artists and publication dates. You can reply here by editing this section. Indent your response by adding a colon to the front. And "sign" by using the Signature button or adding four tildes (~~~~). Thanks, and thank you for contributing. --MartyD 10:51, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

I have the issues--the drawings are signed but not credited for both issues. The signature is the usual K over the F motif for the Turning Wheel and the block letter EMSH for Ed Emshwiller, both signed in the lower right part of the drawings.jroneill 06:47, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Great, thanks. I will accept your submissions and add the info above to the notes. Thanks! --MartyD 09:55, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Linking uploaded images to the database record

Thanks for uploading cover images to the ISFDB server. The next step is to link those image files to the records of the books for which these are the covers. As the instructions (step 6) explain:

Once the file has been uploaded, the image's wiki page will appear. In order to get the URL (address) for the image you just uploaded, left click anywhere on the image and copy the URL from your browser's address window. (Or right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location".) If you're adding a cover image to a pub record, this is the URL which you would enter into the pub record's "Image URL" field.

So once you have the image's URL, go back to the pub record (it's linked on the image file's wiki page) and then click the "Edit This Pub" link under the Editing Tools menu. This opens up an edit page. Under the Publication Metadata section, there's a field labeled "Image URL:" Enter the URL of the image you uploaded into this field, and then click on the "Submit Data" button at the bottom of the page. Once the submission has been moderated the cover image will be linked to the publication record. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins|talk 05:27, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

Image file upload limits

The ISFDB standard for cover image files limits the size to 150 kb. (You will receive a warning if you exceed that size.) Exceptions are made for works of wraparound art. I have resized this file to less than 150 kb. Please keep this in mind for future uploads. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 06:08, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

Image file URL

I had to reject your submission adding a link from the publication record to the cover image because the URL you entered was invalid.

You entered this URL:

But the URL of the image is

As I explained in a previous message, to get the URL of an image file, you must left click on the image and then copy the URL in your browser's address window. Or right click on the image and choose "Copy Image URL" from the pop-up menu.

I will update the record to give the correct URL. Mhhutchins|talk 07:17, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Cover image for Best Max Carrados Detective Stories

Hello! The image you uploaded exceeded the limits of 150kB (or a maximum of 600dpi for either side). Please resize the image and upload anew (or shall I do this for you?). Stonecreek 07:44, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Just in case that the whole thing might be forgotten by me (because I'll be gone for a few days), I uploaded the image in a smaller version. Thank you for obtaining the image in the first place! Stonecreek 05:06, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

Far Rainbow

Hi, I have a submission on hold for Far Rainbow. You want to change the publisher Мир into МIR Publishers, no doubt on base of the cover, but give no reason, nor have you contacted the primary verifier (Willem H.) about it.--Dirk P Broer 06:26, 14 July 2019 (EDT)

Fyi, Мир and MIR are the same publisher. Since it's based in Russia, we use the Russian spelling for the publisher record. We have a field for the transliteration of names in other alphabets. If you go to the publisher, you'll see a small "?" next to the name. Move your cursor over it, and you'll se a pop up with the transliterated name. I corrected the spelling of the translator's name (thanks for spotting this), and asked Dirk to reject your edit. --Willem 15:56, 14 July 2019 (EDT)

Sindbad: The 13th Voyage

Hello,

Can you clarify this submission. Are you saying that you own this book? If so and if you do not have any other details to add to it, you can verify it. The link for that is on the left menu; a direct link here. You want a Primary Permanent verification. If you meant something else, can you please clarify? Thanks! Annie 16:28, 30 July 2019 (EDT)

Ice

I have accepted Ice, but a couple of comments:

  • Price: Pence prices should be entered as pounds and cents, so £0.40. See Template:PublicationFields:Price for details on pricing formats.
  • Introduction: You added a pub note stating it has an introduction. This should be entered as content within the pub. Please edit the pub, add the title of the introduction (if simply "Introduction" use "Introduction (Ice)", change the type to essay, and the author as how Aldiss is credited in the book).

Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:40, 31 October 2021 (EDT)

I have gone ahead and added the introduction to the contents (and also the cover image). Stonecreek 06:54, 4 November 2021 (EDT)
