Welcome!

Hello, Jean-Thomas Cullen, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:43, 23 July 2018 (EDT)

John Argo

I accepted your initial edit to John Argo, but rejected the second and replaced it with new version:

  1. For the author image, we only link to specific sites that have given us permission (see ISFDB:Image linking permissions for more details). So instead of the image you linked to I linked to an Amazon image.
  2. For web page links, we are looking only for links that are the author's home page, blog, or significantly discus the author. They should not be bookseller links, etc.
  3. For the note, we are looking for short, non-marketing information. I have entered a significantly trimmed version of your edit.

We welcome author participation, but our focus is on creating a bibliography and not sales. We welcome you adding your genre pubs (but only the genre ones). ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. And please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:43, 23 July 2018 (EDT)

Empire of Time

I have accepted your edit adding the web page for the Empire of Time series, but I rejected the other edit. The proper way is to enter this books as individual publications, not to enter in the notes. See the welcome message above on instructions for adding new pubs. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:46, 23 July 2018 (EDT)

Yanapop

I have rejected your change to Yanapop. The title & date of this work should stay as is since it was previously published under that title. The proper way to record a new title is to enter a publication with that title and then variant it to the existing title (instructions for both are in the welcome message above). If it was published under the name "Y. B. Suttle" that should be all that is entered for the author name and the new author's name made into a pseudonym of John Argo. However, I notice Amazon shows the new title under Argo. Also, the synopsis should be short & non-marketing speak. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:58, 23 July 2018 (EDT)

Moon Berry Wine

The same thing goes for this title as Yanapop so I have also rejected this edit. As for the question on the series information, series data does not go on a chapbook entry. It goes on the shortfiction record within the chapbook. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:00, 23 July 2018 (EDT)

Thank you for all your kindness - much appreciated. I am a neophyte and will need to learn a lot of basics from scratch. I really do need to fill out all the info about my many books, starting with my teenage novel (Star Mate) now finally published for the first time after 50 years in the cold. I'm using the pseudonym A. T. Nager (a teenager, yes?) for that one for a while. It's really #1 in my Empire of Time series (John Argo stories).
One note: I need to get after Amazon (again) and work with them to clean up my pages (John T. Cullen, John Argo, Jean-Thomas Cullen). Some of my novels aren't shown, while obsolete editions are there, and many Kindle ebooks are not linked to their POD editions. I'll get it cleaned up in the next year or so. Thanks again. Just getting started here.
I think I need to press Save Page below, yes? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jean-Thomas Cullen (talkcontribs) .
We actually have Star Mate in the database so I have made A. T. Nager a pseudonym of John Argo. You can sign your wiki posts by typing --~~~~ or using the little signature looking button (second from left) above the editing window. That helps when multiple people are posting.
