Cover for Dominator

Thanks for adding the cover image for this publication. You seem to have had some difficulties to add the image to the entry (just like me in the beginning), and I have added it for you. The thing to do would have been to click on DMNTRLPXXQ1989.jpg‎ directly beneath the image on this page and copy the URL into the image field of the publication record (that you have to edit for the task). If you have the book conattntly at your hands it would be best to primary verify it. You are also encouraged to add some notes to the record as in this example. Thanks again for contributing. 1970 Corgi ed. of Marooned

I've accepted the submission to add this record to the database. But there are several issues which need to be resolved before it complies with ISFDB standards. (You'll find those standards link to the Help pages in the Welcome section above.)

  • The number in the ISBN/catalog number field appears to be a pre-cursor to the ISBN. If it is a catalog number, you should add a hash/number symbol (#) before it. You can also convert it to an ISBN by adding a 0 (zero) before it. If you do the latter, be sure to state in the Note field that the ISBN has been derived from the catalog number.
  • The price field should be given in decimalized British currency. So "30p" should be entered as "£0.30".
  • If there is no artist credited for the cover, then the "Cover Art" field should be blank. You can add a note that the cover is a photograph and can credit the photographer (if stated in the pub) in the record's Note field. By entering "None (photo cover)" in the field, you've created an artist by that name.

I can make the corrections for you, or if you wish, you can update the record yourself. To respond to this message, click on the "[edit]" link to the right. Enter your response in the dialogue box which opens. Start your message with a colon (:) which separates and indents it from the previous message making it easier to follow the discussion. In successive messages, add another colon to the number in the previous message. End your entry with four tildes (~~~~), which will automatically "sign" and date your message. Then click the "Save page" button. When someone has left a message on your talk page, you will be notified by a highlighted "My Messages" link when you log into the ISFDB. Multi-priced publications

If a publication gives two or more prices, determine the one that is prevalent for the country of publication and enter that one into the Price Field. As you learned, it is common for 1968-1971 British publications to be priced in two currencies, and you've chosen correctly to give the pre-decimal price. The decimalized price should then be entered into the Note Field. This helps prevent other editors who may not be familiar with the standards from creating a new record. If the prices are given for other territories, you have the option (but are not required) to record those as well in the Note field. Thanks. Mhhutchins 15:51, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Adding covers to verified pubs

Hello, I've approved your submission to add the cover for the Asimov autobiography and notified the PV1here. Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone

I accepted the submission to add this record, but it has an invalid ISBN. Perhaps you mistakenly added the ISBN-13 without the "978" prefix? If there is an ISBN-13 in the book, then it was very likely published after 2005. Is there a date of publication statement, and/or a numbering line giving the printing of your copy? Research has shown that there was an "adult edition" of this title published by Bloomsbury in October 2004 with the ISBN 0-7475-7360-3. Perhaps that is your edition. Thanks. The record for Prisoner of Azkaban has a valid ISBN, but since it was published years after the first hardcover edition, it would be good to note the difference in your copy, especially if there is an edition statement or printing statement. Well, I really made a mess of this, didn't I?
Taking your queries in order: The ISBN for 'Philosopher's Stone' is 978-0-7475-7360-9; that's the only one given. The edition was published in 2004.
'Chamber of Secrets' ISBN is 978-0-7475-7361-6. Again, published 2004.
'Prisoner of Azkaban' is the adult-cover edition (all of the books I submitted are). Again, published 2004.
'Order of the Phoenix' - I missed the fact that this edition is already there so my one can be deleted. I did spot that my edition of 'Half-Blood Prince' is already there so didn't resubmit it.
Finally 'Deathly Hallows' has an ISBN of 978-0-7475-9106-1.
If you are happy with these alterations then I'll make the changes when I upload the cover images. I'll also note that these are the adult editions to clarify. I will now go and stand in the corner. GordonD 18:04, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
I will delete the first record of Order so you can update the one you created. Again, I have to wonder that these copies have ISBN-13s. That system didn't begin until 2005. Are you certain your copies are first printings of the 2004 "adult" editions? Are you certain that the number is the ISBN and not the EAN (which was a precursor of the ISBN-13, but not exactly the same thing). Are you getting the ISBN from the copyright page or from the dustjacket, or is it the number printed above the barcode (usually the EAN unless it specifically states "ISBN")? Thanks for checking. ISBNs are being taken from the copyright page in all cases. It actually says ISBN before the number. However Stone and Chamber are third printings, Prisoner and Goblet are second printings. I took the issue dates from the copyright page where it says in all four, 'This edition first published in 2004' and no later date is given. Order is sixth printing and Hallows is second - I just used the author's copyright date for these as again no other one is given. All of the books are from the adult hard-cover box-set.GordonD 18:58, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
If there is no explicitly stated date of publication, you should zero out the dates (0000-00-00) which will be displayed as "unknown". For ISFDB records, the year of copyright should not be used for the date of publication. Please update the records, correcting the ISBNs, zeroing out the dates (if a first printing isn't indicated), and then give the printing number in the Note field. Thanks. price with currency sign
