Welcome!

Hello, GeraldMWeinberg, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --MartyD 10:35, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Earth's Endless Effort submission

Hi, and welcome. A couple of notes about your Earth's Endless Effort submission. The link to the image on Amazon you included was broken. I'm not sure what happened. I changed it to point to this. If that's not an appropriate cover, perhaps you can find the one you intended? I also changed the binding from pb to tp. Amazon claims 9" -- do you know if that's right? We reserve pb for 7 x 4.25 (and smaller) and use tp for larger. See Help:Screen:EditPub#Pub_Format_.28Binding.29 for details. And I added "$" onto the price; we include the currency symbol along with the numbers in this field. Apologies if any of these changes were not correct. You can reply here (click on "edit" in the right corner above this section; indent your reply with a leading colon (":"), one per level of indentation desired). Thank you for the contribution, and again, welcome. --MartyD 10:44, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, MartyD.
I've been trying to enter a new book for a couple of hours now, and it's just too complicated, so I'm giving up. Maybe if I find myself with a lost weekend, I'll try again. I'd like my record to be complete, but I could write a short story in the time it takes to enter it in the database. I'm really sorry, because I love the idea of your site. (I can't even figure out the right way to sign this. Something about Jerry Weinberg 04:14, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
You got the signing right (you can enter four tildes -- "~~~~", and the software will do the substitution for you; there's also a button above the editor window, second from the right). I'm sorry to hear you had so much trouble. Please don't give up! Entering a book shouldn't take more than just a few minutes unless it's a collection of some sort. You can leave a lot of the stuff in the New Novel screen blank. Title, author(s), publisher are most important. ISBN/Catalog number, date, price, and format are very important, too, but are not always known. A URL (link) for the cover is useful but often unavailable, likewise the name of the cover artist(s). Notes are for additional details/description, should you want to provide them. An unknown date is entered as "0000-00-00", everything else unknown is left blank. All of the other stuff is truly extra information, much of it often not applicable. If you could use some help, just ask. --MartyD 10:35, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Image linking

I accepted the submission of this pub but had to remove the link for the cover image. It was a bad URL or was blocked by the server. We need explicit permission to link directly to another server to retrieve images. (The only exception: links to Amazon's images are implied in the license.) You can upload the image to our server and link directly using the "Upload Cover Scan" function on the pub's record page (linked above). Thanks for contributing.
