Welcome!

Hello, Follyblaine, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 20:36, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Fresh Blood & Old Bones

I have accepted your publication addition, but made a couple of changes:

  • Publication Editor: When entering an anthology, we credit the editor of the anthology; not all the authors with stories in the anthology. Based on the Amazon look-in-side, the title page did not credit an editor, therefore I changed it to "uncredited".
  • Cover Image: The cover image was not from a site that has given us explicit permission to link to their images (see Help:Screen:EditPub#ImageURL). As such, I changed the image link to Amazon.
  • ISBN: As the ASIN is not an ISBN and is specific to only Amazon, I moved it to the notes.

The ISFDB has a number of conventions and it can take a bit to become familiar with all of them. I encourage you to read through the help (see links in welcome message above). Also, feel free to ask questions (either here in response to this or if a new topic you can post questions at the ISFDB:Help desk‎). We appreciate your contribution. -- JLaTondre (talk) 20:37, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

I have accepted the submission crediting Kasey Lansdale as the editor, but added a note that she is only credited in a note from the publisher. I also added the introduction based on the Amazon "Look Inside". Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 20:49, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Author photograph

I had to reject the submission to add a link to the photo image, because it is on a server for which we don't have permission to "deep-link". This means that even though it's displayed on the ISFDB's author page, the actual image is on another server. This is considered "bandwidth theft" by some servers who don't take to it kindly. If you own the photograph or have permission from the photographer, you can upload it to the ISFDB server as long as you attach the requisite license tag (Author Image) which gives us permission to host the file. Let me know if either of these cases apply (the photograph is yours and/or you have the photographer's permission to use it) and I will assist you in uploading it to the ISFDB server. Good job with uploading the image and adding the proper license. I accepted the submission to link it to the author summary page, but wonder why you removed the email address. I restored the email address to the author data because it appears on the author's website. If you are the author and the maintainer of the website, I would suggest that you remove the address from both if you don't want this to be public knowledge. But we both know that once something is on the Internet, it never can not be on the Internet. Mhhutchins 01:03, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

I'm new to this wiki and not sure if this is where I should respond, but the reason I removed the email address from my author listing is that on my web site I've scrambled the source mailto text so it makes it more difficult to scrape the email for spam purposes. I would prefer not to post my email on the wiki because I expect it's just plan text here. I'm not trying to hide how to reach me, I just want to make it more difficult for spambots. I appreciate all of your help and patience as I figure out how to use this site. Follyblaine 03:03, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
I'll remove it, but you're going to have to check back periodically to see if it's returned. We have some rather diligent editors who are on top of author data and might return it to the author page. Mhhutchins 03:25, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Roms, Bombs & Zoms

I accepted the addition of Roms, Bombs & Zoms, but had to make a couple of changes:

  • Pub Series: The ISFDB differentiates publisher series (publisher level series like Ballantine Adult Fantasy) from title series (universe or groupings of books independent of publisher like Dune Universe) Unfortunately, you cannot enter Title Series information when you submit a new publication. You have to wait until the submission is accepted, then go back and edit the newly-created title record to add the series information. See Help:How to work with series for more details. I removed the pub series you entered and moved it to the title record.
  • Foreward: Generic title like Introduction and Foreward should be dismbiguated with the title of the publication (ex. "Foreward (Roms, Bombs & Zoms)"). We do given the larger number of Foreward & Introduction titles.

Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:10, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
