User talk:F22Dead
Welcome!
Hello, F22Dead, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Help pages
- Field-by-field guide to entering new publications into the database
- Help:Getting Started
- What the ISFDB Wiki is for
- FAQ
- Wiki editing help - Tips on how to use the wiki-specific features when editing wiki pages.
- Wiki Conventions - How things are usually done on this wiki.
- Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki
Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.
Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.
I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 12:19, 25 August 2019 (EDT)
Your submissions
Welcome again and thanks for becoming active. However, your first submissions were set on hold. They would change primary verified publications, and the changes would need to be communicated with the respective verifiers. Moreover, the dates and prices you suggest seem to be inappropiate due to some specialties of our little database. If you'd like to know more about it, don't hesitate to ask (either right here, at the verifiers' respective pages, or at the help desk). Stonecreek 12:27, 25 August 2019 (EDT)
- With no answer and in the light of the following item, I have rejected the submissions. Stonecreek 11:48, 26 August 2019 (EDT)
Operatie koekoek
Hello. You've updated Operatie koekoek with a price. There are several issues with your submission (that has unfortunately already been accepted by a moderator).
- First of all, it is common practice to contact the primary verifiers of a publication record first before changes are submitted to check if they agree with the proposed change.
- Second, Belgian francs are noted as Bfr, not BEF (and there should not be any other text in the prices field).
- Lastly, it is good practice to always note down the source where you got the data from in the notes field.
So, can you explain by replying here (log in, and hit 'edit' at the right) where you got the price from? I suspect the price is from a 1988 printing. If my suspicion is correct, it shouldn't be entered in the 1987 pub record, but in its own 1988 record instead.
Editing the ISFDB is a bit daunting at first. That's why there are moderators that will help you out, so don't hold back questions you may have how to do things. Ask your questions by replying here, or over at the helpdesk. Cheers! MagicUnk 16:49, 25 August 2019 (EDT)
- I removed the price and added it to the notes (source unknown). Also informed the approving moderator. --Willem 02:02, 26 August 2019 (EDT)
'... Editing the ISFDB is a bit daunting at first. ...' No understatement, indeed. But I understand your point. I will, next time, contact first a moderator before changing anything. My apologies for my early enthusiasm. Currently I am updating and cataloguing my personal book collection, and I found this site. Needless to say the priceless and great information that I have found in "isfdb". A big THANK YOU for creating and maintaining this site.
Not my intention to object your comments, specially as a new member, but... I live in Belgium, and the previous currency (before EURO) was the Belgian Franc. BEF. From Wikipedia: BEF = Belgian franc, ISO 4217 currency code for the former currency of Belgium. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by F22Dead (talk • contribs) .
- No problem. Starting on ISFDB is not the easiest thing to do. In the welcome section above you'll find useful links to help pages and where to ask questions or start discussions.
- About your remarks/questions:
- There's no need to inform everyone of everything you do, only when there's a primary verification (which means someone actually has the publication), it's common use to ask before submitting a change/addition. Some of us have instructions about whether or not to ask questions on their talkpage (see the yellow section here).
- We do not use the ISO 4217 codes for currency notation. Please read this.
- Again, welcome on ISFDB! --Willem 04:01, 27 August 2019 (EDT)
- Nice! A fellow countryman! :-) Welcome to the ISFDB. I hope you'll stay and continue to contribute to the database. I'd suggest you start with only a few edits at a time and wait for a moderator to approve before submitting the next few - it was advice I'd been given when I started out, and it's turned out to be good advice :-)
- That said, can you let us know where you got the pricing data from for Operatie koekoek?
- Also, it is good practice to always include the source of the data you're entering in the Notes field - but only if the source is not the actual publication.
- Lastly, you can sign and date your posts with four '~'. MagicUnk 03:55, 28 August 2019 (EDT)
OK, understood. Pricing data for "Operatie Koekoek" was located on this pocket book as a sticker. A book bought more than 30 years ago in the GB (Grand Bazar), today Carrefour. If requested I can make a scan and send it to you. Darren-19 04:14, 28 August 2019 (EDT)
- Nah, no need to send a scan. But do feel free to edit the notes of the pub and write something along the line of: "Price on sticker of book bought in 1988 has 89 Bfr (added on 2019-08-xx)." or something else to that effect. MagicUnk 16:33, 28 August 2019 (EDT)
