Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

Christmas Angels

The submission adding this new publication was accepted, but I've made a few changes in order for it to comply with ISFDB standards (you'll find links to the help section above about adding and updating db records.) I changed the date to 2011-10-18 (October 18, 2011) and the binding to "tp" (its height makes it a trade paperback) based on the Lulu.com listing. I also changed the dates of each of the content stories to the same date as the book, under the assumption that these are all original to the anthology. If they're not, you can change the dates of individual stories. If you have a copy of the book, please add the page numbers for the contents and do a primary verification of the record (instructions in the welcome section above.) Thanks for contributing. Linking uploaded images to publication records

Thanks for uploading cover images to the ISFDB wiki. The next step is to link those images to the records of the books for which these are the covers. As the instructions (step 6) explain:

Once the file has been uploaded, the image's wiki page will appear. In order to get the URL (address) for the image you just uploaded, left click anywhere on the image and copy the URL from your browser's address window. (Or right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location".) If you're adding a cover image to a pub record, this is the URL which you would enter into the pub record's "Image URL" field.

So once you have the image's URL, go back to the pub record (it's linked on the image's wiki page) and then click the "Edit This Pub" link under the Editing Tools menu. This opens up an edit page. Under the Publication Metadata section, there's a field labeled "Image URL:" Enter the URL of the image you uploaded into this field, and then click on the "Submit Data" button at the bottom of the page. Once the submission has been moderated the cover image will be linked to the publication record. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 23:13, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Tales from the River

Hi. I accepted Tales from the River and made a couple of minor changes: I moved the ASIN to the notes (it is Amazon's number, not the publisher's/book's number), I added the "Volume 1" to the title, and I found a cover image on Amazon to which I added a link. Are all of the stories in this anthology speculative fiction? If there is no fantasy element to it, the story should not be entered into the database. Dates on content

Hi. I accepted your The Ghost IS the Machine submission, and some of the content records had dates of 2014-08-14. I changed those to be 2012. But seeing that told me you entered dates on all those content items, so here's a time-saving tip for you: Content records are assigned the containing publication's date automatically if they do not have a date of their own. So you only need to enter dates on those records where you want something different. For large collections/anthologies of original works, that can save you quite a bit of time. Double-initial authors

Hi. Make sure you include a space after the period when using initials in author credits and in titles. There's a tendency when entering double initials to omit the space after the first one's period. I fixed up "A. A. Garrison" and "R. B. For When the Veil Drops

Various questions and comments about For When the Veil Drops:

  • What is your source for this entry? I am asking because "unknown" should only be used for entries from an (incomplete) secondary source, yet you did not cite any source. From the Amazon Look Inside, I think we should probably go with "West Pigeon Press", based on the introduction's signature and corroborating copyright credit (with a note indicating this). No title page, so we can't be sure. If you have the book, then you could make a definitive call. If you feel there's no editing credit of any kind, then "uncredited" should be used instead of "unknown".
  • While researching the above, I found the cover image on Amazon and added it.
  • "paperback" isn't an appropriate binding for the Pub Format field. "pb" (for smaller, regular-sized paperbacks) or "tp" (for anything paperback and larger) should be used. See Help:Screen:NewPub#Publication_Format. I changed this entry to "tp" based on Amazon's dimensions of 9" x 6".
  • You should put only one ISBN in the ISBN / Catalog # field (the software thinks all text in that field represents a single number/ID). I kept the ISBN-13 there. Since the Look Inside showed both, I recorded the ISBN 10 information in the notes. You'll see when you view the publication that ISBN 10 and 13 are both displayed, as the software computes one from the other anyway.
  • I fixed up a few more double-initial author credits, as mentioned above. "B. V. Lawson" and "J. R. Hamantaschen", in addition to another Garrison credit.

Please let me know about the source and editor credit. If you have any questions about, or objections to, anything I said here or did with the submission, please mention them. Zippered Flesh 2

I accepted your addition of Zippered Flesh 2, but had to make some significant changes:

  • Title: You entered the title as "ZIPPERED FLESH". First, this publication is actually "Zippered Flesh 2" and we normalize the case.
  • Binding: You entered the binding as "paperback". I changed it to "tp". We have a standard set of publication formats that we use.
  • ISBN: You entered both the ISBN-10 and ISBN-13. I changed it to the ISBN-13. Only one should be entered (the one printed on the book) and the system will do the conversions automatically.
  • Cover Artist: You entered two names in the artist field. Only one name should be entered per field. If you need to add a second name, you need to click the "Add Artist" button to add another name field. However, per the books Acknowledgements (see via Amazon look-inside), Bergen is the artist and Medina is the designer. We currently only credit the artist so I moved Medina to the notes.

I also added spaces to all of the author credits having double initials (as mentioned above for other publications). I found the Acknowledgements misspell Bergen's middle name. The Look Inside shows it spelled correctly in "The Illustrator", so I corrected it and embellished that note. While I was at it, I added "The Writer" and "The Illustrator" as contents, since they're in the TOC and I made the notes refer to the latter. --MartyD 11:57, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

For All Eternity: Tales of the Seven Deadly Sins

I also accepted For All Eternity: Tales of the Seven Deadly Sins. It had some of the same issues as the prior one (Zippered Flesh 2). In addition, you had entered two names for the editor. Same as with artist, only one name goes per field. If you need a second name, click the "Add Author" button. I've made the appropriate changes.

The ISFDB has a number of conventions and it can take a bit to become familiar with all of them. I encourage you to read through the help (see links in welcome message at the top of the page). Also, feel free to ask questions (either here in response to this or if a new topic you can post questions at the ISFDB:Help desk‎).
