ISBN check

Can you see if there is an ISBN-13 anywhere (copyright page, dust jacket) on this 2008 publication? Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins 06:18, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

There is no 13-ISBN.Don Erikson 21:11, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
I've added a note about the lack of an ISBN-13, since any publication after 2007 should have been assigned an ISBN-13. Thanks. Mhhutchins 22:04, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Cover art credit check

Can you confirm the credit for the cover of this publication is "Dick Konfield" and not "Dick Kohfield"? Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins 06:37, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

It is clearly "Dick Konfield" on the back cover. I will add a note about the cover credit placement.Don Erikson 21:17, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

The Vampire Lestat cover

The cover of your verified publication of The Vampire Lestat seems to be the cover of The Witching Hour. --Jorssi 13:11, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

I'll rescan it.Don Erikson 21:21, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Galaxy's Edge

Please add the pub format/binding to this record. Thanks. Mhhutchins 22:13, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Also, the page count seems to be off, if you count the covers per ISFDB rules. Mhhutchins 22:17, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

You're right. I forgot to count the front cover. It's fixed.Don Erikson 18:42, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
You didn't add the format. Mhhutchins 20:06, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Supernatural in Fiction

Please check the starting page of the two stories on page 93 of this publication. Thanks. Mhhutchins 00:20, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

It's now fixed. Thanx.Don Erikson 18:49, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

The Bane of the Black Sword

I'm going to go ahead and correct the title of Moorcock's The Bane of the Black Sword which was missing the second "the" in the title of the publication record per this discussion. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 02:56, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Hot Sleep

Can you check the titlepage of this edition for me? My paperback has 'Hot Sleep: The Worthing Chronicle' on the titlepage, and I'm trying to determine what the canonical title should be. Thanks, --Willem 20:14, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

It does say "Hot Sleep The Worthing Chronicle" but the title is at the top of the page while the subtitle is in the middle with some graphic elements. It could be a little confusing but I would go with your title.Don Erikson 18:53, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Sounds more like the title is 'Hot Sleep' and 'The Worthing Chronicle' is the series title. In that case what is in the database is correct. Let's wait what SFJuggler has to say. Thanks for checking! --Willem 19:29, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

The Tribe

Please confirm the ISBN as given in this record. I'm holding a submission for a new publication record that has the ISBN of 0-451-11104-4 but is otherwise the same as your copy. Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins 18:39, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

My mistake. My copy does have the ISBN of 0-451-11104-4. I corrected the entry.Don Erikson 18:48, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

The Space Swimmers

A number of the Fabian illustrations in The Space Swimmers by Gordon R. Dickson (which you have verified) appear in the contents of Fabian artbooks I'm entering in the database. Since there are so many illustrations in the pub, I propose to add those illustrations I would like to variant to the art books to the contents of The Space Swimmers, and list the page numbers of the rest of the illustrations in the notes for that pub. Is that acceptable to you? Bob 20:37, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Go ahead. I good with it.Don Erikson 21:07, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Thank you! Bob 21:39, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

User Horzel found the artist for this pub here. I added the credit and notes. Thanks, --Willem 19:26, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Baal

Can you check if your verified copy of Baal has this afterword? The afterword is dated on the database 2011, but my Subterranean Press edition of Baal, which has the afterword, states it as beign written by McCammon in June 1988. Thanks. --Jorssi 21:13, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Sorry it's been so long, I've been too busy the last few months to be here much, and it probably wont be much better for awhile yet. The afterword id dated June 1988.Don Erikson 01:24, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Up Your Asteroid! A Science Fiction Farce

Hello, I've added the exclamation mark to your verified here. Hauck 16:42, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

Poems in The Best of L. Sprague de Camp

We've got the titles of the poems listed incorrectly in our mutually verified copy of The Best of L. Sprague de Camp and I suspect they are wrong across all copies including your other copy. Please see this discussion and let us know if we can correct these across all the copies. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 15:04, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

David and Davis Seidman

I suspect that the cover artist and interior artist of this publication may be the same person. Can you confirm the credits? Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 16:35, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Sorry it's been so long, I've been too busy the last few months to be here much, and it probably wont be much better for awhile yet. It is David and I changed it.Don Erikson 01:32, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

The Last Hurrah of the Golden Horde

The House of Caine

I added cover art credit with notes to The House of Caine, which you verified. 21:57, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Light on the Sound

I've amended part of the Note for our verified 1986 edition: "End of book has two appendixes, list of Proper Names, and a Glossary", by adding "none of which are present in the 1982 first edition." I reckon it's worth mentioning. PeteYoung 06:36, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

Default display of non-English translations

When you get a chance, could you please review this discussion? The proposal basically boils down to changing the behavior of the Summary Bibliography when the viewing user is not logged in. Currently only English translations are displayed for unauthenticated users. The proposal would change it to displaying all translations. The downside is that the Summary page could get longer and harder to navigate.

I am trying to get a sense of how widespread the support for this change is. TIA! Ahasuerus 01:03, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

Survey

You verified Survey Ship, a pub illustrated by Stephen Fabian. I added one of the illustrations to the contents, the one that appears in a Fabian art book. Bob 22:24, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Cover artist discovered

The artist for this printing of Brave New World is Denis Piper. The art is reproduced in Penguin Science Fiction Postcards. Mhhutchins|talk 03:05, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

Isaac Asimov's Wonderful Worlds of Science Fiction # 1: Intergalactic Empires

Hi, I've enhanced UK edition of this. I'd like to 'tidy' US title to remove the Series name. Xipetotec 03:35, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Primary editors have the option to add the complete title as it is stated on the publication's title page, even series data and subtitles. It doesn't have to necessarily match exactly the canonical title of the work or the titles of other publications of the same work. Mhhutchins|talk 06:59, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Wine, Woma(e?)n and War

Can you check the titlepage of this pub again? The title is in the database as 'Wine, Woman and War', but the cover of both english editions has 'Wine, Women and War'. Thanks, --Willem 19:43, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Sorry it's been so long, I've been too busy the last few months to be here much, and it probably wont be much better for awhile yet. It is "Women". I fixed it.Don Erikson 01:44, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

The Number of the Beast

I added the cover artist to The Number of the Beast that you verified. Bob 21:08, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Psychomech

I am reasonably sure that the J. Thiesen responsible for the cover art in your verified Psychomech is the same person as Jim Thiesen who did the covers for some other Lumley books like Psychamok and Demogorgon. Would you agree? Ahasuerus 03:59, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

I agree.Don Erikson 01:45, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Garan the Eternal strikes again

Could you please take a look at Garan the Eternal (the 6th printing) to see if it has the same short stories as the 5th printing? I have have documented the 5th printing's copyright and contents pages at Publication:GRNTHTRNLS0000 so you can see if your 6th printing matches. Thanks. --Marc Kupper|talk 05:35, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

I have updated your verified 228201 and 366501 to add the short stories One Spell Wizard and Legacy from Sorn Fen. Memoirs of a Spacewoman - Pages and pub note

I've amended the 'Pages' count in your PV1'd Memoirs of a Spacewoman from 159 to 160 to include the last page of the novel, and added a pub note explaining the count. Astrodan 15:07, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

Ringworld - pub note and HTML link

Hi, I've added a pub note on the 'Pages' count in your PV2'd Ringworld, activated the HTML link to the external fan site from the pub note on artist attribution, and re-arranged the printing history notes, in the absence of PV1 Dragoondelight, (Harry).

Normally I would end this type of message there, but after looking deeper into PV1's pages, it occurs to me that it's nearly five years since he resigned, and there's a chance it may have been you who added the pub notes in the first place. (and also that his leaving might not have been unconnected with an editing issue...) I apologize in advance for not asking first, if it was you, and am happy to return the note order to the way it was if you prefer. Danny, Astrodan 16:15, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

Monsters Galore

Could you check this pub for me? I entered the Dutch translation, and have two questions. In my edition there is an introduction by Bernhardt J. Hurwood on page 5. Is there one in your edition? Second, the story 'An Irish Vampire' is in my edition as by R. S. Breene, and in yours as by R. S. Breen. Is this a typo, or a pseudonym? Thanks for checking, --Willem 19:30, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Sorry it's been so long, I've been too busy the last few months to be here much, and it probably won't be much better for awhile yet. There is an introduction. Missed it because it's on page 1. I'll add it. The author is "Breen" on the table of contents but "Breene" on the story page. I'll fix this also.Don Erikson 01:51, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Roger Zelazny's "Guns of Avalon"

You are the most recent verifier of this pub and I was hoping you could check a couple of things.
- The notes have "Avon/3113/$150 on the cover". The image and my copy have "Avon/31112/$1.50".
- The notes have "the spine has 380-3112-150 plus 0-380-00083-0". My copy has "380-31112-150 over 0-380-00083-0".
- The notes have "Date taken from code 10-77 on an ad in the back". The ad in the back of my copy has "SF 9-76". Oddly enough, I have a copy of the fifth printing which has an ad on the last page with the same code. Both are ads for Avon books, but the 4th printing has three J. T. McIntosh books listed, while the fifth printing does not include any of their books.

If we can get our story straight, I'll point the other two primary verifiers to this discussion. Thanks Doug 20:33, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Your copy is correct in all matters. I screwed up.Don Erikson 02:06, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
I misread the post. I have a fifth printing, not a fourth. I'll remove my verification and amend the record for the fifth printing. cheers! --~ Bill, Bluesman 22:07, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Doc Savage books

Hi, Don. You've verified The Fantastic Island, but without a pub date. My seventh printing says the fourth printing was April 1968. Do you want to add it? Thanks, Doug / Vornoff 00:22, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Don. That link (http://home.comcast.net/~man-of-bronze/index3.htm) that seems to be on a lot of the Doc books doesn't seem to work. I've been replacing it with links to the cover artists on docsavage.org - hope that's okay. I've just been going thru what Doc pb's I have and bringing things up to date. I notice you've got a lot of verifications on those. If it's ok with you, I'll just keep notifying you here with any changes I've done. If I get something wrong just let me know. e.g.: Changed notes on The Monsters. Thanks, Doug / Vornoff 05:47, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Ringstones

I've submitted a cover artist modification. As you can see here on Flickr, there's a signature "Blanchard" in the lower right corner of the front cover. Therefore the cover artist of this is (Robert or Bob?) Blanchard, not Richard Powers. Horzel 23:08, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

Aliens in Space

Re this publication: Shouldn't the publisher be given as Crescent Books and the year as 1979? I pulled out my copy and both are stated on the last page of the book: "This edition is published by Crescent Books..." and 1979 is given in the Library of Congress Data. Mhhutchins|talk 20:51, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Well it does say Crescent Books on the title page but Intercontinental Book Productions on the title page, so I changed it to the other printings publisher thinking it would be more consistent. But now I thinking is was a mistake. I'll change it back.Don Erikson 21:18, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Well, I may have a different edition. It doesn't mention Intercontinental on the title page. Does your copy not have the statement I've given above on the last page of the book? Mhhutchins|talk 21:28, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Sorry about that I got a phone call in the middle of typing. I meant Intercontinental Book Productions is on the copyright page.Don Erikson 21:33, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
I went ahead and created a a publication record for my copy. Mhhutchins|talk 21:36, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Wack-A-Doom-Doom-Wow

Hi, Don. The above odd title shows up as a review in your pv'd Science Fiction Eye #14. I've been unable to find any useful reference on the web to this novel or to its author to make a publication for it. Are you sure the review refers to a novel? (I've seen one reference to some sort of video) Do you have any way to add a pub to the title to get it off the Titles Without Pubs list? If not, is it possible to make an essay out of the review to get it off the list? Thanks, Doug / Vornoff 02:52, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

I've been able to find issues #8 thru #13 so far, (my mags are not as organized as the should be). When I find it I'll take care of this.Don Erikson 22:09, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
The ISBN for this "book" actually is for the reviewer Don Webb's novel "Uncle Ovid's Exercise Book". The publisher also doesn't exist. My guess this is a parody review, I will change it to a short story.Don Erikson 22:40, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

A Wizard of Earthsea

Cover artist of this Ace 1973 edition is Joseph Lombardero, according to Diamond Bay Research. (That site gives Warren Roth Gallery as source, with a site that no longer exists, but they still sell Lombardero art on ebay). Horzel 09:38, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

The Best from Fantasy and Science Fiction: 20th Series

It is Lombadero and I fixed it.Don Erikson 22:14, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

The Chinese Agent

I updated the cover artist for Moorcock's The Chinese Agent per this discussion. I also added a link to the Worldcat record while I was in there. Do you have any idea why we have a 1971 date? I don't see anything in the book to support it. I'm cross-posting this on the other verifier's page. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 13:38, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

J. Lombardero

Can you look at the three publications credited to J. Lombardero and say if the credit is based on the signature or a stated credit? Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins|talk 08:05, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Yes, they are all by J. Lombardero, credited on the back cover.Don Erikson 22:16, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Ballantine 1st paperback of Sturgeon's 'More Than Human'

There are 2 records for the 1st printing of Ballantine #46 'More Than Human'. I believe the one you (and Kraang) verified, http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?204081, should be deleted, but first wanted to check with you to see if there's a reason to keep both of the records. The one you verified credits publisher "Ballantine Books". The other record, http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?22862, credits "Farrar, Straus and Young with Ballantine Books" as shown on the title page (and front cover.) Is there a reason to keep record #204081 which does not credit Farrar Straus & Young? Thanks. (And, FYI, I'm checking with Kraang, also.) Markwood 05:24, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Was Ballantine part of Farrar, Straus and Young then? Or is their mention just promotional credit touting an earlier hard back (i.e this book was worthy of hard back edition)? It comes down to who is the real publisher. If it was FN&Y then go with that.Don Erikson 23:55, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
There was some sort of co-publishing relationship between FS&Y and Ballantine. The FS&Y hardcover doesn't mention Ballantine, but has this note on page facing the title page: "This is an original novel -- not a reprint -- published by Farrar Straus & Young, Inc. The low price of $2.00 is made possible by large printings of combined editions." I compared the hardcover with Ballantine paperback and confirmed they're both by same plates. FWIW, Currey & Tuck split: Currey includes FS&Y, Tuck does not. I'd still recommend having just one record for this publication, and I still believe it should show the publisher as it appears in the book, given FS&Y printed the pages. Kraang OK'd that, also. However, I'll defer to your guidance if you know an overriding authority on the publisher, or an overriding ISFDB standard. Thanks. Markwood 22:32, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Yes it is. I'll add her as an co-author.Don Erikson 19:15, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

A Torch... by Caidin

Can you confirm the title of this publication? It doesn't match the title record's title. Mhhutchins|talk 19:41, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

The explanation for this is long and boring. It's was a mental version of a typo, call it a "braino". I used the "Remove Pub" function and I hope this removes the bad title completely from the DB. I will do it correctly when the dust settles.Don Erikson 23:42, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Cover art credit for Promises to Keep

Re the cover art credit for this publication: How are they individually or separately credited in the book? Is there two covers? Also, is it Ron Lessor or Lesser? Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 19:51, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

The copyright page says "Cover art by Joe & Kathy Heiner/Ron Lessor". The outer cover is a photo of a flower wreath, the inner a painting. There is no indication of who did what. BTW the red target on the outer cover is a red cellophane over a die-cut hole, bet that cost a pretty penny to mass produce.Don Erikson 20:10, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Done. If your edition has an introduction like the earlier editions please add it to the record. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 00:36, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
There's no intro.Don Erikson 00:40, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Analog Readers' Choice

Are you certain of the data given in this record? Davis ordinarily published softcover digest versions of the Dial Press hardcover editions. This one has the same ISBN, price, and binding as the record for the Dial Press edition. Perhaps you failed to change the data during the clone function? Mhhutchins|talk 00:42, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

There's no number of any kind. But I've just noticed that on the cover it says in small letters "1982 Edition". This may be a reprint of the digest. makingi it a 3rd though it still says "First Edition" on the copyright page. If you think this is correct then cancel my earlier edit and I'll redo it tomorrow.Don Erikson 01:01, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
I can't cancel an edit which I'd already accepted. How is your copy different from this one? Mhhutchins|talk 01:21, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
I guess did something stupid. I meant to clone the digest as 2nd printing (of the digest, a 3rd overall) but seems I cloned the hc. I'll start over and fix everything.Don Erikson 21:40, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Marchers of Valhalla

In your verified Marchers of Valhalla, you are missing a page number for "A Thunder of Trumpets" (it's 53 in the first printing and all other pages match between the two printings). Also, the story on page 177 has quotes around it in the first printing. As this is the only story that has quotes on the title page, it would have been an intentional choice. If yours is the same, it should be replaced by the "For the Love of Barbara Allen" record. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 14:11, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Both fixed. Thanx.Don Erikson 21:53, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Creep, Shadow

In record 266066 for the Avon Murder Mystery Monthly issue of Merritt's *Creep, Shadow Creep!* the title is written with two commas rather than one. Both cover and title page appear to have only one comma in the title. Minor point but just thought I'd mention it. All the best. Ldb001 04:56, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

I've used the "Edit title" tool. I hope this will take care of it.Don Erikson 20:11, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Actually it won't work the way you intend and I'm going to reject your submission. If I had accepted it, the edit would have changed the title for all of the publications that share that title, not just yours. The edit you want to make takes multiple steps. While there are a few different ways to accomplish the steps I would recommend that you do the following:
  1. Use the unmerge titles tool and select the record that is your publication.
  2. Edit your publication and change both the Title in the Publication Metadata section, and the title in the Regular Titles section to the correct form of the title, with the single comma.
  3. Merge your new title record with the other copy with the same title. You should be able to do this by using the Check for Duplicate Titles tool. Note that this title was just created because Ldb001 is making the same edits to the other Avon printing. If he has not made this new title a variant of the parent title Creep, Shadow!, then that step will also be required.
Let me know if you need any help with any of these steps. I can also do them for you if you'd like, but I want to give you a chance to do them yourself, if you'd like. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 23:09, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Matheson's Shock Collections

I've expanded the notes for Richard Matheson's Shock!, Shock II and Shock III, adding the Reginald, Bleiler and Worldcat numbers. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 15:59, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

The Great Forgetting

I approved your edit to The Great Forgetting, but I just wanted to verify that you intended to change the page count to 3542. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 23:15, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Fixed it. Thanx.Don Erikson 22:22, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Analog Reader's Choice again

Are you certain this is hardcover for only $2.95? Also, is it possible that you have the same edition as this record? Also, this record you created the other day is still in the database. Didn't you intend to delete it or do you still think it's a good record? Mhhutchins|talk 22:44, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Everything I have done with title is wrong! Forgive me, cancel the latest entry and I'll delete the other questionable entry.Don Erikson 22:51, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
As I said in the previous post about this title, I can not cancel a submission that's already been accepted. You'll have to delete any records which you have created in error. Mhhutchins|talk 22:59, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
And I'll remove the other Readers' Choice as it's already entered under the original title. The title on the cover was changed but not the title page.Don Erikson 22:57, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Cover Artist for Crossing the Boundaries

I corrected the name of the cover artist Anne-Claire Payet who we had without the hyphen in this publication, per this discussion. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 01:01, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Rick and Rich Newton

Can you confirm the cover credits for this book and this one? I'm thinking they could possibly be the same artist. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 02:06, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

According to each copyright page, that is how the artist are credited. By what I've seen on the internet, both are probably Richard Newton.Don Erikson 21:12, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I've created pseudonyms and variants. Mhhutchins|talk 03:07, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Merril's Galaxy of Ghouls

I expanded the notes to Judith Merril's Galaxy of Ghouls adding several catalog numbers. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 02:58, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

Margaret Organ-Keen

In your verified Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy, Summer 1997, would you please double check the Kvetchula artwork (pages 24-29). It is credited as Margaret Organ-Keen where her real name is Margaret Organ-Kean. These records should be corrected / varianted as appropriate. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 17:56, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

My mistake, it is Margaret Organ-Kean.Don Erikson 22:25, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
Fixed. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 00:38, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Price on The Mind Traders

Don, I've altered an overseas currency cover price on our verified copy of The Mind Traders. Previously the Note stated "South Africa $0.85 (not Rand)"; actually the Rand is divided into 100 cents and South Africa has never had the dollar, so the "85c" as stated on the book is correct. Thanks. PeteYoung 15:56, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Bayley's The Zen Gun

Don, is there an essay in your verified copy of Barrington J. Bayley's The Zen Gun called The Recessive Hypothesis, after the novel? If so, it's now in the db to import to your pub. Thanks. PeteYoung 21:39, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

I never imported a single title before. It is done.Don Erikson 21:39, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Ghostly By Gaslight

I've added various catalog numbers to Ghostly By Gaslight by Moskowitz and Norton. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 02:58, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Mort Enge or Engel

Can you confirm the cover artist credit for this publication? Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins|talk 05:48, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Please check this when you get a chance. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 05:47, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

I'm back. I spent all of December away taking care of an injured sister, all better now. So, it was a typo for Engel and I fixed he entry & now I'll delist the bad name.Don Erikson 21:40, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
OK I can't figure how to do that so if you would be kind....Don Erikson 21:43, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Review in SF Eye #14

Can you provide any additional information that may be given in the review of Wack-a-Doom-Doom-Wow by Donald Cobalt on page 81 of this issue? I can't find anything about it on the internet in order to create a publication record. Date and publisher would be great. (I'm actually coming to the conclusion that it's a facetious review of a non-existing book.) Thanks for looking. Mhhutchins|talk 21:12, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

This is a reminder to check this review, just in case you'd overlooked the original post. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 05:48, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

I'm back. I spent all of December away taking care of an injured sister, all better now. Yes, this seems to be a parody review a fictitious book. The ISBN given for it (0-9325-1117-1)is for the reviewers own book "Uncle Ovid's Exercise Book : Fictions". Don Erikson 21:53, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
Good to hear your sister's better. Thanks for the response. I'll change it to an essay. Mhhutchins|talk 06:22, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

At the Earth's Core

A question of magnification! There is a signature on the artwork for [this], on the bottom right-hand corner. It had to have been a poster at some time and the image has been used before but in mirror-image. I just can't get the signature to resolve ... any ideas? I also think the publication could be dated 1976 as there's no way Ace would have waited 6 months to capitalize on the release of the movie. Cheers! --~ Bill, Bluesman 00:05, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

According to this site [2], the artist is George Akimoto. The signature seems to be G. Akimoto. As to the note, it wasn't me who originated it. I agree it must have come out with the movies release.Don Erikson 02:04, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Good detective work! I'll amend the record with link. Cheers! --~ Bill, Bluesman 18:36, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Beast Master

Managed to put a year on [this] edition. All the latest books listed in the Norton ads in the back came out between June/Sept '74. --~ Bill, Bluesman 18:44, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Zero Stone

Don, does your copy of [this] have ads in the back? The one I have has 17B, 25B, 24C; the latter two were used in 1972, not before. Date in the record could still be correct if there are printings with earlier ads [not the first time ...]. Love ACE! --~ Bill, Bluesman 21:08, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

My copy is the same as yours. You're right, those books appear on the Ace 1972 list so the date will be corrected.Don Erikson 22:05, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Pohl's Star Science Fiction

I'm going to expand the notes to several volumes of Pohl's Star Science Fiction series, by adding the catalog numbers for Reginald and Bleiler's Guide to Supernatural Fiction. I intend to update 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. There is also a note on the first volume stating that Worldcat does not have a record for the paperback printing. This may have been true when the note was added. However, this record now exists. That record gives a size of 18cm. While Worldcat seldom specifies binding, they do for the hardcover edition which lists a size of 19cm. Presumably the records for the smaller books are for the paperback. I'll therefore replace that note as well. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 17:42, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Pern Crossroads Adventures

You verified the two Pern volumes in Tor series Crossroads Adventures. How do you know the series numbers 1 and 12? In the books I find only: [a] last printed page in Dragonharper order form for six volumes ordered by ISBN, which would make Dragonharper #3; [b] second printed page in Dragonfire unnumbered list of ten volumes that would make Dragonharper #1 and Dragonfire #10.

I would like to expand the two pub records, mainly contents and page numbers, more notes, but also unify the titles (value of field Publication). I suggest simply Dragonharper and Dragonfire as titles, which is no change for the former. In notes state that front cover and title page may be interpreted as full title A Crossroads Adventure in the World of Anne McCaffrey's Pern: Dragonharper (for the former and parallel for the latter). Spine omits "in the World of". I suggest no mention of the facts that the order form in Dragonharper suggests Anne McCaffrey's Pern: Dragonharper as title and the list in Dragonfire gives only one word in italics with "Dragonfire, based on Anne McCaffrey's Pern" for the volume in hand. What do you think of this?

--Pwendt|talk 19:43, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

I think you have a good idea. The whole Crossroads list is confusing. I'll support any changes you think best.Don Erikson 22:20, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
For the two Pern volumes I have unified titles, added contents, and provided lengthy Publication Notes (approved). Now I provide Notes for the two introduction by McCaffrey Titles. (In the first printings, and probable only publications, they span pp 1-6 and pp 1-2 respectively.) Essentially I say that the former and longer 1987 "Introduction (Dragonharper)" by McCaffrey begins with her nonfiction preface concerning the derivative fiction project represented by both books. The latter part of the first introduction and the entire second introduction are Pern synopses.
Feel free to reword these notes in the Crossroads:Pern records or to copy-and-paste with modification some of them in the records for other volumes.
I doubt that I will handle more of have in hand more copies from the series than the two Pern volumes, nor do more for the others than increase coherence of ("unify") our titles and series numbers. --Pwendt|talk 20:39, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
(edited strikeout and bold) for other volumes "unify" as possible from secondary sources, at least LC Catalog insofar as this series is in the catalog. --Pwendt|talk 20:53, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Could you please check that the cover art of your verified Pocket Books edition is equal to "Don Quixote Fantasy" shown on the Lou Marchetti site? Thanks. Horzel 09:03, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Don, I've added this essay to your verified pub. It should be in there, shouldn't it? Christian Stonecreek 16:48, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Space Adventures, Winter 1970: Julian S. Krupa

Hi, Don. In your pv'd Space Adventures Winter 1970 can you check the p.114 art by Krupa. I'm trying to see if it matches the one in my Amazing January 1939 issue, which stretches over 2 pages: Left side - (middle-right of page) a woman with a ray gun in a doorway looking at... Right side: (2/3 page) a man with a double-finned hat at the controls of a spaceship with caption "The girl trained her pistol straight at the pilot's heart". Thanks for any help here.
