Welcome!

Hello, Don Carnage, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

Flashing Swords

The submission adding this new publication to the database was accepted, but several changes had to be made in order for it to conform to ISFDB standards. You'll find links to the help pages in the Welcome section above. Here's what I had to change:

  • Title: added the issue number to the title field (to disambiguate it from other issues that may be added later)
  • Date: changed to 2009-03-03, based on the Amazon.com listing
  • Pub Format: changed to "tp" for trade paperback-size publication
  • Price: added the price from Amazon.com
  • Pub Series: removed "12", this field is for publication series, not issue numbering.
  • Contents: changed the dates of all the content entries to the date of the magazine.
  • Authors of contents: changed "M.P. Ericson" to "M. P. Ericson", and "G.W. Thomas" to "G. W. Thomas", to conform to standard name entry.

I also added the cover image from Amazon, and changed the interviewee's name to Christopher M. Cevasco to conform to his canonical name. A question: is there any indication in the magazine of what may the complete name of the interviewer who is credited as "FS"? And another question: is the editor credited as "Dianna Wagner" or "Diane Wagner" (as Amazon has it listed), or "D. K. Wagner"?

If anything I changed is wrong, you can respond here on your user talk page. [Click "Edit", add your comment, offset with a colon, and sign with four tildes (~~~~)]. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 20:02, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm holding the submissions for two other issues because they have the same problems. You've probably not found your talk page yet, so there's no point in going over the submissions until you do. Unfortunately, you left no email address. I'll give you a few more days and then decide whether to accept the submissions and correct them myself, or reject them and hopefully get your attention. I'm figuring this out.. The interviews done by 'FS' have no name as to who the interviewer is. Issue 12 editor is "Dianna Wagner."Don Carnage 12:31, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Those interviews should therefore be credited as "uncredited". I'll clean-up Issue 12, then accept the submissions adding Issues 9 & 11. Would you like to fix those records based on the guidelines that I've given here, or would you rather that I do it myself? Mhhutchins 18:17, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the updates on #9 & #11. I still had to do a little cleaning up, like removing the link to the image. We don't have permission to deeplink to the website that holds that image. You will have to upload a file of the image to our server from you computer's hard drive. Click on the "Upload Cover Scan" link, and follow the directions. Once the image is on our server, you can update the record and link to the image file. (That must be done manually, it's not automatic.) I also changed the dates of the content records from 0000-00-00 (which means the date is not known) to the date of the issue. I looked up the Flashing Swords website and found that there are several items missing per issue. They look like poems. Please consider updating the records and adding those titles. Thanks.
