Bierce's The Complete Short Stories 2

I have rejected the submission to create a record of this publication, because of several errors, but have taken your information to create a new one. The reasons for the changes are explained on this help page. Please use this page as a guide to creating future records.

  • Title field: According to the OCLC record, the title of the book is The Complete Short Stories 2, The World of War and the World of Tall Tales. Titles should be taken from the title pages and not the front covers of publications. They differ so often that we had to establish a standard about which title to use. If this title does not appear in your copy of the book, please update the record and edit the title field.
  • Date field: Does your copy give the month of publication on the copyright page, as most Ballantine printings usually do? If so, it should be given as well, in the format: YYYY-MM-DD (the day should be zeroed, if it is not stated.)
  • Page count field: You show 318, while the OCLC record gives it as "xix+298". If a book has roman numbered pages we include those in the page count field as published. The last numbered page in the book would be the next figure in the page count field (although exceptions are made if there are extra pages which aren't paginated.)
  • ISBN / Catalog # field: This should be the number which is stated in the book, either on the copyright page (priority) or the cover. You should not give an ISBN-13 for a book which has just the 10-digit number. Record the ISBN as it is stated in the book.
  • Price field: The currency must be given in this field. For US dollars use $.
  • Image URL field: This image file must be on a website for which we have received permission to link to their images. We do not have permission from Librarything. Here is a list of websites which have given us permission. I have linked the ISFDB record to the file on Amazon.
  • Content section fields: This is the one area which causes me the most pain to have to reject the submission. I know you went to a lot of trouble to enter these, but because these titles are already in the database, you would have had to merge each and every new content record with the existing record. The better way to do this is to import them from publication records which are already in the database. I will do this for you.

Here is a link to the record which I've created. Please go over it and check to see if it matches your copy. Make any changes by clicking on the "Edit This Pub" link. When it matches your copy, do a primary verification of the record (there's a link in the Welcome section above which explains this process.)

A question: is the introducer credited as "Ernest Jerome Hopkins" in his three pieces in the book? We have a record for the hardcover edition of this title, but he is credited as "Ernest J. Hopkins".

One last thing: titles should be entered using standard capitalization rules as explained under "Case" here.

Your recent submission for an author change

Hello! Alas, I had to reject it: we record the credit as stated in the publication. But it seems that Len Beech may be a pseudonym used by Steve Bowkett. In this cases we establish a pseudonym relationship, so that the title shows up on the canonical author's summary page. What's your source of information? Stonecreek 00:12, 31 January 2018 (EST)

Oh, I just saw that 'Ben Leech' already is pseudonym used by a certain Stephen Bowkett; so, Steve & Stephen are likely one and the same person. I'll establish yet another pseudonym. Thanks for bringing this up. Stonecreek 00:18, 31 January 2018 (EST)

Doctor Who and the Invasion from Space

Hello, I've put both your submissions on hold. You intended to change the author from "uncredited" to "J. L. Morrissey". There are two problems:

  • if there is no credit on the publication, it must stay this way and the real author (if there enough proof, see below) should be identified by a variant relationship.
  • what are your sources that confirm this credit (alas "purported" is not a bibliographical evidence).

About your note about the content of this: The content matches Fanac and FictionMagsIndex. Do you have the magazine at hand or do you have it scanned/online somewhere so we can figure out that "Obituary" short humor piece on page 42? As noone had around here had actually seen the magazine, if you have the magazine and can verify, we will note the difference and fix it. Weird Tales changes

I'm curious as to your source for the Volume and Issue number changes for Weird Tales. Specifically, your edit to this issue is changing the issue number from 12 to 13. I've double checked a scan of that issue and it is clearly marked as issue 12. For the other edit, you're trying to change it to issue 12, but it is marked issue 11 in the magazine. I realize that they issued two #11s for volume 39. However, we shouldn't be renumbering the issues with different numbers than they were published with. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 07:28, 10 May 2018 (EDT)

The Last Defender of Camelot

yes - it's just that the current listing for the intro has Robery Siverberg, rather than Robert Silverberg. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cthulhuinc (talk • contribs) .
The current into is listed as by "Robert Siverberg". However, if it did need correcting, the way to do it would be to edit the exiting title record vs. creating a new one. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 11:25, 16 March 2019 (EDT)

Cover Image Uploading

Cover image uploading is a two step process. Once you have uploaded a cover to the wiki, you need to click on the image (so you get just the image), copy that URL, and then edit the publication to add the URL to the publication. So for:
