Welcome!

Hello, Ctgarry, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Hauck 03:11, 3 August 2017 (EDT)

Tales of the Talisman, Volume 9, Issue 2

Hello, I've approved your submission but had to make extensive changes to conform to our standards:

  • Deleted synopsis (would disappear after merging by year which I've done).
  • Deleted Title SeriesNum ("27170" is meaningless).
  • Deleted webpage (it must be about the publication/title and not about the publisher, this could go at series' level).
  • Changed publisher to "Hadrosaur Productions" as per publication itself.
  • Changed price from "8.00 USD" to "$8.00".
  • Uploaded a scan into our system as we're not allowed to deeplink to the specified website.
  • Regularized a lot of authors, for example K.G McAbee to K. G. McAbee (added space between initials) or Richard King Perkins II to Richard King Perkins, II (added comma), or J Alan Erwine to J. Alan Erwine (added period). If not this would have wrongly created a lot of "new" authors.
  • More importantly, I've also set the publication date to "2014-01-19" as "2013-10" doesn't mean anything in this case.
  • Not resolved are the case of two of the reviews (the unliked ones) that will have to be corrected either by adding the corresponding publication (if eligible) or transforming them into ESSAYs.

The result is here. Please take some time to read the Help pages and also see how data is entered before trying to enter another issue (be reassured, magazines are by far the most complex records). Thanks for contributing. Hauck 03:48, 3 August 2017 (EDT)

Thank you. CTGarry 04:30, 3 August 2017 (EDT)
No problem, we (the moderators) are here to give the needed assistance to new contributors. I've kept the thread on your talk page. Hauck 04:44, 3 August 2017 (EDT)

Canonical

Hello, I've processed your diverse submissions to obtain (or so I Hope) the desired result. Christopher T. Garry is now the canonical and Christopher Garry the pseudonym. Hauck 04:48, 6 August 2017 (EDT)

Black Denim Lit, February 2014

Hello, I've approved your submission but made a few changes to conform to our standards:

  • deleted number of pages and page numbers (meaningless for an ebook).
  • added currency symbol (we're an international outfit so not everyone here uses USD).
  • set binding to "ebook".
  • merged with 2014 title record.
  • changed date to simply "2014-02" as per date on publication (in the case of magazines, we used the stated date not the "real" one).

The result is here (you can now upload a scan). Note that I've also changed the editorship of the december issue to your canonical as it's what's stated on the publication. Hauck 03:08, 7 August 2017 (EDT)

Author info

Hi. Nice catch on Michael Reilly. If we find a few more of his works, we can change the disambiguation to add "(artist)" to the other one and remove the numeral from this one. To answer your question about supplying author blurbs: They are welcome if you want to take the time to enter them, especially where they help clarify the author's identity or literary footprint outside the spec fic world. --MartyD 21:23, 8 August 2017 (EDT)

Gary W. Davis

In researching your comment-submission about GaryW. Davis, I found the Amazon Look Inside showed the "GaryW." to be a typo. When I changed the title's credit, that author entry got deleted, forcing me to hard-reject that submission. But hopefully all is as it should be! Thanks. --MartyD 20:55, 14 August 2017 (EDT)

Tales of the Talisman, Volume X, Issue 3

Hello, I've approved your submission but had to make some changes to conform to our standards:

  • changed Volume X to Volume 10 as per magazine itself.
  • deleted webpage (it will disappear with the merging by year).
  • corrected series to simply "Tales of the Talisman" (this one), "Tales of the Talisman - 2015" is the yearly title.
  • corrected "James Frederick William Rowe (credited as John Frederick William Rowe)" as it's not a valid author's name. In such case, you've got two options: 1) you suppose that this is a "simple" typo (e.g. the correct name is used elsewhere) so you enter the correct name and mention the typo in the notes; 2) you suppose that it's a deliberate creation of a pseudonym so you enter the author as credited that make this name a pseudonym of the canonical. In order to keep things simple, I've chosen the former (but you can disagree).
  • merged issues by year and varianted titles as needed.
  • disambiguated book review's title (note that you could have added the individual reviews).
  • added artist.

The result is here, there is still the problem of this text that should perhaps be disambiguated and its type precised because of this similar one. Note that you can find the pages numbers here. Hauck 03:36, 15 August 2017 (EDT)

(T)ales of the Talisman, Volume 8, Issue 4

Hello, I've approved your submission with nearly the same set of remarks as above (I've disambiguated Thomas' essay and added the missing T in the title). The result is here. Hauck 03:56, 15 August 2017 (EDT)

Thanks a lot~! Not sure I understand everything. Where do I post questions about corrections? Where do I post questions before I submit? CTGarry 19:32, 17 August 2017 (EDT)
