Bio:Charles Lee Lesher

I see you created Bio:Charles Lee Lesher. This would be a fine bio for your personal web site. it might not even be too out of place on User:Chuckmiester999 But it seems to me that it doesn't really fit on the ISFDB's Bio pages. Our Biography Policy species "...a short, neutral, factual article, professional in tone,..." and our Biography guidelines say, in part:

"The purpose of any Bio page on the Wiki is to inform users and other editors briefly about the facts of the author's life. Bio pages should not include blurbs from or summaries of the author's works. Bio pages ought to be factual in content and the facts ought to be verifiable. If a matter is questionable, sources can be cited. This means that, in general, personal accounts, "what inspired the author", what the author's "visions" or intent is, and the like are not appropriate."

In particular, a Bio written in the first person effectively locks others out of editing the bio, which is contrary to our usage note:

"Please note that all contributions to ISFDB are considered to be released under the Attribution (see ISFDB:Copyrights for details). If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then don't submit it here."

and to the general principles of wiki design.

I am inclined to move your bio as written to User:Chuckmiester999 and edit Bio:Charles Lee Lesher significantly. But I'd prefer to have your response before doing so, or to have you create and post a more appropriate bio. -DES Talk 16:15, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

I hope this doesn't sound hostile, it isn't so intended. We do welcome contributions, and the participation of speculative fiction authors. I notice that we have a record for Shadow on the Moon but based only on Amazon data, and Amazon is notoriously unreliable on certain data. if you care to correct any errors or omissions, and verify the corrected record, it would be most helpful. -DES Talk 16:15, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

And yes, I would like to add some depth to your entry for my novel Shadow on the Moon. I have already tried to add Tags but I kicks me out saying I need to log in. Yes you must log in to make any changes to anything. The wiki and the db proper use separate login processes and set separate cookies, although they share the user database, so your username and password are the same on both. Both username and password are case-sensitive, and of course cookies must be on. Help:Screen:LogIn has some information.
