Welcome!

Hello, Apineo, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --MartyD 09:53, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Gunner Cade submission

Hi, and welcome. I have a quick question about your proposed addition of a Dell #3329 printing of Gunner Cade. I see we have the first printing, with that catalog number and price, but dated 1969-06-00 and with a note saying the book states that it is the first Dell printing. I assume your copy is different?

My copy states that it is the First Dell Printing, too, but three lines above states Reprinted by arrangement with Simon and Schuster. I think this is the same copy. I didn't find this copy on a search for Gunner Cade among titles.--Apineo 23:15, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
That probably refers to its being a reprinting of the original hardcover, as opposed to another printing of the same Dell edition. What I will do then is reject your submission, and you can look over that publication I linked above and make any embellishments / corrections to it. I see it has been verified by a couple of other people. Our practice in such cases is that if you want to ADD anything, go ahead and do so and leave a note on the verifier's talk page (or follow any instructions you find there); if you want to CHANGE anything, you should check with the verifier first -- if you see something different, you may be looking at a different printing. Thanks. --MartyD 02:32, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Does anything in it tell you what printing it is? I'd like to add a note. You can reply to this question right here by editing this section. Indent your response with a leading colon (":") -- each colon gets you another level of indentation, and "sign" it with four tildes (~~~~) or use the second button from the right at the top of the editor window. Again, welcome, and thanks for contributing! --MartyD 10:01, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

p.s. When you enter non-ISBNs into the ISBN / Catalog # field, start them with a leading pound sign (#). Thanks. --MartyD 10:01, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Upload problems

I just submitted a cover scan of Compton's Chronicules, but got an error with a file exceeding 150K. I resaved it and uploaded again, but still got an error. This site is seemingly user unfriendly. What gives? —The preceding unsigned comment added by Apineo (talkcontribs) 08:26, 3 October 2010

What exactly was the error message? For uploading see Help: How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki.
Note that it is preferred that images be no larger than 600 pixels in the largest dimension, larger ones are usually not needed because they are scaled down on display anyway, and they merely take up diskspace.
Note that the "semi-automated' method, starting with the 'Upload cover image' or "Upload new cover image" link on a publication record saves a good deal of trouble for the uploader. Some additional editing is still needed.
This site was created entirely by a few volunteer programmers, adn is not always as user friendly as we could wish. My apologies. -DES Talk 19:52, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh, please do sign your talk page messages with four tildes (~~~~). The software converts this into your user name (or signature if you set one) and a timestamp. The next-to-rightmost tool button above the edit box inserts this signature code. -DES Talk 19:52, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
