Welcome!

Hello, AndyEchevarria, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 17:47, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Jeremy's Heart & Other Stories

Thank you very much for adding this collection! The publisher was changed to Amazon Digital Services, as stated at amazon, and from where I also took the price of $0.00. There was also the need to normalize the title to overall leading capitals per ISFD standard. Now, it would look even better if the contents were listed, don't you think? You can add them right away (you could have also done it in the initial step). Thanks again for contributing! Stonecreek 17:53, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Based on ISFDB standards, I moved Amazon's identifier from the ISBN/Catalog field to the Note field. I also changed the price based on the current listing on Amazon. Also, are you certain that Amazon Digital Services is the publisher? According to the "Look Inside" there is no stated publisher, and Amazon appears to be the seller of the book and not the publisher (as indicated by their listing.) I also moved the page number down to the Note field, because Kindle-formatted ebooks don't have set page numbers (they are determined by the reader). The cover image file on Amazon was also linked to the ISFDB record. Mhhutchins 20:50, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Entries having "data from another source"

Hi, and welcome. Thank you for the contributions you have been making. One thing you haven't been doing on them, which is very important to do, is that when the source is not a book in hand/on computer, it's important to record the source of the information in the Pub Notes. Nothing elaborate is required, just naming the source (and a date can be helpful). E.g., "Data from Amazon.com" or "Data from publisher's website as of 2013-03-22". This helps us judge how to deal with discrepancies in the details when someone has a copy of the publication and finds it is not in agreement with the database record. Thanks. --MartyD 12:24, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

2014-03-22 Submissions

I accepted a number of new publications you added, but had to make some changes to bring them in line with ISFDB standards:

  • Format: You entered these as ebooks or unknown. However, per the publisher and Amazon websites, most appear to be print publications. I have changed the format to match the data I could find (see "Sourcing" bullet below).
  • Titles: You appear to have entered the titles as given on Amazon. Amazon has some oddities in how titles are displayed. We follow more standard bibliographic conventions. In particular, titles with subtitles should be entered as "Title: Subtitle".
  • ISBN: The ISBN should always listed where available. If a book is an ebook with only an Amazon ASIN, then the ASIN should be given in the publication notes.
  • Prices: You appear to have entered the prices as given on Amazon. However, we only use the list price as established by the publisher. Amazon only sometimes provides the list price (usually labeled list price & crossed out with a disconnect price below it). We do not use the discount price. If it doesn't say list price, their prices need to used with care unless there is collaboration (printed on cover via displayed cover art, another source, etc.). If the price is unusual, it should not be used.
  • Sourcing: As Marty says above, when sourcing anything other than the publication, you need to specify the source.

We do appreciate your submissions. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. And please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:18, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

OBE (Out of Body Experience)

I had to reject your addition of OBE (Out of Body Experience). This book is already in the database from your previous submissions. Please search by ISBN before adding a publication. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 13:08, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

People & Places

I rejected your submission for "People & Places". We only catalog speculative fiction related content. A magazine and essay on penpalling would not qualify. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 22:04, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
