Since the ISFDB currently matches awards and Works lexically, should we indicate that all other things being equal, editors should use the title used by a known award? Ahasuerus 20:54, 20 Jun 2006 (CDT)

Hmmm. I see why we might say that, but would we actually want to break bibliographic rules just because an award does? Wouldn't we say, instead, that if the award is given to a variant title that doesn't have any existence in an actual publication, that you should create a variant title for that purpose, just so it can match? In ISFDB1, the title could point to an award via a list of tags; it also did a lexical match. In ISFDB2, these tag lists were converted directly into a mapping table (title_awards). The current title.cgi app does not do any lexical mapping at all - it only displays data which is directly linked from the awards table. In any case, I haven't found the awards data to be more reliable than other sources of canonical titles - in fact, the press releases for an award often contains title errors - so I'd be less inclined to use them as the canonical title.Alvonruff 19:19, 21 Jun 2006 (CDT)
