Template talk:SeriesHeader

Template was changed to make it clear that discussions about how, what or where titles are recorded on the project page should be made on the talk page and not on the Series page itself. MHHutchins 05:01, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

First please note that {{SeriesHeader}} is not the Header for Publication series, that is {{PubSeriesHeader}}. This is the header for ordinary series. Secondly, if "Discussions about how to organize and/or record the works in the series" are banished to the talk page, there is likely to be little of value on the Series page itself. I think the recent edit is ill advised. -DES Talk 05:13, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
You're right, I changed this template instead of the Publication Series header, but have made the changes in my comment above to reflect that. That doesn't mean I don't think the change is necessary. A project page, in this case, Series, should be the project itself. Would you deny the fundamental purpose of the talk page is to discuss what is on the project page? Or am I just not understanding the purpose of a talk page? Please fill in the blanks. MHHutchins 05:22, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Well it depends what "the project itself" will be in a typical case. It is generally true that meta-discussion, talk about what goes on the project page, should go on the corresponding talk page. But it seems to em that a major purpose of "the project" in such a case, is to discuss what should or shouldn't go in the database proper -- which series and sub-series to use, in complex cases. We could decide that that sort of thing goes on the talk page -- we can make what guidelines or "rules" we like. The first question is,m what sort of things do we want on a more or less typical "series" page. Then discussions about those things will properly go on the talk page. Or we can leave it vague and to be decied page-by-page if we choose. -DES Talk 05:30, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
I admit to have mistaken the two templates, and have reverted the changes made to this template. That still doesn't negate my reasons for changing the Publication Series template. Please see that template's talk page. Thanks. MHHutchins 05:36, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
