From Tuck's Encyclopedia of Science Fiction and Fantasy:

      C. D. Horning began this magazine as a companion to Science Fiction.
Because of World War II, both were combined into Future, which
eventually ceased in July 1943 (the last two issues being titled Science
Fiction Stories). Lowndes improved the magazine considerably after he
became editor; he included a number of reprints of stories by R. Cummings.
In 1950 Lowndes was able to revive the magazine as one of the lowest-
priced in the field; however, this meant cheap paper and low story payments.
Thus the quality could not be high, but nevertheless it was always capably
edited and of interest, as were its companions Science Fiction Quarterly,
Dynamic Science Fiction, and the more recent (Original) Science Fiction
    Stories.
When the one-shot issue of Science Fiction Stories in digest size in
1953 was successful, Future changed to that size in June 1954. After some
issues as a bimonthly in this form, its role was taken over by Science Fiction
Stories, and Future appeared only occasionally until it was made
regular again in 1958. It had some good articles at times, and interesting
editorials on various phases of science fiction. The quality tapered off
considerably before its demise, which was probably due to poor sales from
lack of a distributor. Reprints were used in most issues from June 1959.
