John Spencer & Co. was a London-based publisher set up in 1947 by Samuel Assael[4] (born 1920), who did buisness under the name "John Spencer".[1] Initally published mainly pulp SF magazines, later published much paperback fiction, including much SF.[1] The firm continued in operation until the late 1970s, although the Badger imprint (much the largest part in the later 1950s and early 60s) apparently ceased operations in 1967.[1][6] A vendor's listing states that the Badger name was first used in 1954.[3]
