This ISFDB publication record initially used a Dec. 1, 1971 printing date with the source being the author's web site's Anthology / Collection page.

However, this conflicted with the following data points:

  • The Book Club edition is gutter-coded March-1971 and was the SFBC selection of the month for April-1971. Usually the retail/trade edition is earlier than the SFBC edition.
  • The Author's web site's detailed fiction bibliography reported "Fun with Your New Head, Doubleday, 1970."
  • The ISFDB title record for Fun with Your New Head reported 1970 which would be the first printing date for the variant title though only showed publications starting in in 1971.
  • Finally, Contento Fun with Your New Head listed as "Doubleday, Dec ’70, hc."

The conclusion was that the Dec. 1, 1971 date is a typo and it should have been Dec. 1970 which would get the publication date in alignment with all of the points listed above.

Semi-related are the following data points from the author's web site:

  • The summary bibliography page just has Under Compulsion (UK) / Fun with Your New Head (US) (1968)
  • The detailed fiction bibliography page has
    • Under Compulsion, Hart-Davis, 1968
    • Fun with Your New Head, Doubleday, 1970
  • The stuff for sale page has "Fun With Your New Head Doubleday, 1971"
  • The Anthology / Collection page page has
    • "Under Compulsion" London: Rupert Hart Davis. (Sep. 1968) First Edition. "First Published in 1968" on copyright page. # pp. Paper over boards. Dust jacket design by Ken Reilly.
    • "Under Compulsion" London: Panther Books 03265. (Mar. 1970) First paperback edition.
    • "Under Compulsion" Second printing 1978. Cover illustrated by Tony Roberts.
    • as "Fun With Your New Head", Garden City: Doubleday & Company, Inc. (Dec. 1, 1971) "First Edition in the United States of America" on copyright page. 207 pp. Cloth over boards. Dust jacket illustration by Anita Siegal
    • as "Fun With Your New Head", Garden City: Science Fiction Book Club. (1971) 216 pp. Paper over boards. Dust jacket illustration by Anita Siegal.

    • as "Poussière de Lune ". Paris: Denoël, Presence du Futur #172. (Nov 9, 1973) 217pp. First French edition. Translated by Roland Delouya. Paperback. No cover art.
    • Second edition: Oct 1999 Cover art by Stéphane Barry

To further confuse the situation:
A letter by Elaine Geiger, editor of the SFBC, published in Locus #66 (October 29, 1970) states that the trade edition of this title "will be published Feb.5, 1971 by Doubleday for $4.95." Also, all references to "the author's website" in the above statement are actually referring to a website which is unauthorized (that is, "not ran or endorsed by the author".) From a PVed copy: Page 207 has a gutter code L51. This points to a printing date in December 1970. The title page has 'Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York 1971. Publication date therefore changed to January 1971. --Willem 05:32, 16 October 2017 (EDT)
