Proposed database properties
1. The name should always be entered in standardized form (this is easier and it makes sure that there are not unconnected alternate forms in the db)
2. The name should always be displayed in the author's current preferred form.
— This can be accomplished by having a field for the author's preferred spelling in the author record. If desired, make it a rule that when submitting such a display form, people must enter a moderator note stating the source of this info and the links or other sources of info must be included in the Author Website or Notes field.

3. Searching by either standardized or author's spelling should find the author record.

4. As far as possible, what is actually in the publication should be recorded. (Item 1 makes this somewhat difficult.)
— Way of achieving this: Encourage editors to add notes to the publication if names are printed in nonstandard ways or if there's a name they know is usually nonstandard but isn't in that publication.
— Not-very-feasible way: Multi-field below the main notes section for recording each exact spelling. (in the New Publication form, you would have a field in each content title area to enter the exact spelling).
