ISFDB talk:Stray Coverart

There may be a bug in the ISFDB software that is creating these. COVERART records are mostly handled behind the scenes without user intervention, unlike other content records. But 1077157 seems to be superseded by 1233709, and 1077162 by 1221840. (Just picking on David A. Hardy for the moment, as he was GoH at last week's Eastercon.) Any other Editors/Programmers/Analysts/Nerds/Geeks want to experiment with this? BLongley 00:46, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure if it's a bug but it looks like someone changed the title of some of the works and new title records were created. For example a couple of Amazing Stories issues by Leo Summers are stray, but there exists another record for each of the months with the name of the magazine changed. I've changed the credits for so many cover art records that if there were a bug that left the old records in the db there would be a lot more than what's listed here. Unless the bug depends upon a certain sequence of events for it to manifest. I almost always change the cover art record itself, and rarely change it from the pub record. Maybe that's the difference? Another explanation

Look at the pub record for The First Chronicles of Greystone Bay. There is no cover artist credited. Now, look at this stray cover art record. Could someone have removed the cover credit with a pub edit (blanked the field), but the system retained the record? Mhhutchins 02:56, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
