Help talk:Converting a NOVEL publication to a CHAPTERBOOK/Conversion-draft
My conversion method
There's an ambiguity between bullet points 2 and 3 that might confuse some users. If you add a CHAPTERBOOK title record (point 2), you can't also change the NOVEL title record into a CHAPTERBOOK (point 3). You do one or the other, or you'd wind up with two CHAPTERBOOK title records. I suggest that it be reworded.
Here's my conversion method: I change the header's type to CHAPTERBOOK, change the content NOVEL title record to SHORTFICTION, and then add a new CHAPTERBOOK title record under contents. (This works 95% of the time, the only proviso being that the change in the container record sometimes must be done in a title record edit and not in a pub record edit if there are more than one pub record under this title record.) The main reason I choose to make the NOVEL title record into SHORTFICTION type is because occasionally the NOVEL title record has already been placed into a series. This method retains the series data in the SHORTFICTION record, because it was decided that it's better to keep SHORTFICTION titles in series rather than CHAPTERBOOK titles. There was a bug in CHAPTERBOOK series display that has since been repaired, but I see no need in making all the hundreds of edits that would change the series data from the SHORTFICTION record to the CHAPTERBOOK record.
