Shauna Roberts, Ph.D., was born in 1956 in Dayton, Ohio, and grew up in nearby Beavercreek, Ohio. After receiving degrees in anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) and Northwestern University (Evanston, Ill.), she worked at Science magazine and The Journal of NIH Research. From 1990 to 2010, she was a freelance medical and science writer and copyeditor, winning several award for her columns and her book (with Barbara Hansen) The Commonsense Guide to Weight Loss for People with Diabetes.

She writes science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction and is a 2009 graduate of the Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers' Workshop. Her first novel, Like Mayflies in a Stream (Hadley Rille Books), was published in 2009. It retells the "Epic of Gilgamesh" from the point of view of the priestess sent into the wilderness to tame Enkidu the wild man.

She was the 2011 recipient of the Speculative Literature Foundation's Older Writers' Grant.

She currently lives with her husband, an economist, in Southern California. She enjoys herb gardening, reading, playing and listening to medieval and Renaissance music, and bellydancing.
