According to the Russian Wikipedia Granin was born in Volsk, Saratov Oblast. Volyn, Kursk as sometimes can be found must be in error as Kursk is North-East of the Ukraine (in the Russian Federation) and Volyn was a Jewish area in the west of the Ukraine (near Lutsk)
