The author was a well known illustrator/cartoonist who created the 'Big Stick' drawings published in newspapers nationwide during the Theodore Roosevelt administration. He also illustrated several editions of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Works.

He Won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1930 as stated in Who's Who of Pulitzer Prize Winners.
