Ursula Jones, sister of Diana Wynne Jones

The database Author record lists websites including "Ursula Jones" at Library of Congress Authorities and at WorldCat.

The assignment of LCCN n2002056752 shows that LC believes its Ursula Jones is one person. That record suggests the number was assigned, or Jones was identified, upon receipt of her 2002 picture book with Russell Ayto, The Witch's Children, or paperwork for same.

Mistaken identity? However, the Library of Congress probably lists book by multiple writers who share the name Ursula Jones. WorldCat too.

Indeed, it seems plausible that Jones is responsible for all of the fiction books attributed to her and for none of the nonfiction.

As of January 2017:

  • Fiction catalogued as by Jones: all first published in the 21st century, all may be fantasy; some clearly for young children, including picture books by Jones and an illustrator.
  • Non-fiction catalogued as by Jones: all older (1880s to 2000), includes several Catering titles and The Desperate Woman's Guide, 2000 pick-up and sex manual published in North Carolina, USA.

Jones is a long-time actress and playwright, as well as recent prose fiction writer. Concerning the Unicorn Theatre for Children in London, she notes: "I wrote lots of plays for the company, and I haven’t stopped writing for children since." Probably the plays were printed for distribution within the company but never published.
