Locus1 says that this name is, at least sometimes, a pseudonym for Philip Allan (1884-1973). They say this with respect to the short story The Patch, originally published in 1932, so it is unlikely that it applies to the story The Trunk, which (as of 2011-03-03) was the only item listed in this bibliography for this author.
