Locus1 claims that this is a pseudonym for Kimberly Rangel. Other web sources claim that her true name is Kimberly Randell. This later error appears to arise because she writes romances as "Kimberly Raye" and writes horror as "Kimberly Randell". The book "In the Midnight Hour" is listed as written by "Kimberly Raye" and is copyright by "Kimberly Rangel", which supports the claim of Locus1. The copyright site faqs.org claims several books by "Kimberly Raye" are copyright "Kimberly Rangel".
On her home page (linked from this bibliography) she writes in the "FAQ":
- Is Kimberly Raye your real name?
- Actually, Kimberly Raye is my real name, just not my entire name. Raye is my middle name. I always thought it sounded more like a last name, so when I sold my first novel back in 1996, I decided to try it out. I've been Kimberly Raye ever since.
Combining this with the claim from Locus1, that would make her legal name "Kimberly Raye Rangel". The romance novel An Original Sin, by "Nina Bangs" includes a dedication to "Kimberly Raye Rangel", which supports this claim.
