There is confusion about the true name for this author. Wikipedia claims that Katie MacAlister is her name, and Katie Maxwell is a pseudonym. At least one web source claims that her name is Katie MacAlister, and one of her pseudonyms is Marthe Arends. Search.com claims that her name is Marthe Arends, and one of her pseudonyms is Katie MacAlister. The most definitive source, though, appears to be an interview done with Marthe Arends in 2000, with a follow-up in 2003. In the follow-up to the interview, Marthe says "I'm now writing as Katie MacAlister for both Dorchester and NAL." That seems pretty conclusive. Supporting evidence is that on her official web page bio, the photograph of her is copyright by "Michael Arends", presumably her husband (or close relative).

It's worth noting that search.com says that she was born in August 1969, while her Wikipedia page says she was born in March, 1962. The earlier note about her Wikipedia page indicates that we cannot think of this source as authoritative, but since Wikipedia and Locus1 both give a 1962 birth date, we have used that for her ISFDB entry. However, this date should be viewed as "likely".
