Data about the author from the comments on Dr. Hermes' Reviews, specifically from the author's great-nephew. He writes:

"Juba Kennerley was my great uncle. He was born in 1898 and died in London in 1991. He was what you might call an eccentric, often wearing a monocle, a pink carnation on the lapel of a pin-striped suit. and usually had on his feet a pair of solid brogues. He claimed to have always carried a knuckle duster, 'just in case' he once told me. He traveled widely including to Africa, Australia and I think sailed around Cape Horn. ... Juba Kennerley was the son of Capt. Juba Kennerley" who captained the Tyburnia in the 1880s.
