First published as "The Horned Woman" by Lady Wilde as a folk tale in ''The Dublin University Magazine: A Literary and Political Journal'', July 1877, p. 78. Subsequent reprints appeared as "The Horned Women" by Lady Wilde. When this story was reprinted in "Witches! Witches! Witches!" in 1958, it was reportedly attributed to Augusta Baker, the editor of the 1955 "The Talking Tree: Fairy Tales from 15 Lands". In that book Augusta Baker is only named as having the stories selected, though.
