  • Ultima Thule is part 1 of the fix-up novel Planetary Agent X published in 1965, the other part of the fix-up is Pistolero(intended title). This last title according to the copyright page of the 1965 Ace Double edition was also published in Analog, but it was not. It was published later as Hatchetman in Impulse June 1966.
Synopsis: An enthusiastic new agent is sent on a mission to find an elusive political agitator known as Tommy Paine. On the way he gets a whistle-stop tour of some of the strangest governments in the galaxy.
