Synopsis: "The Mysterious Wand" is an Oriental tale, set in Turkey after the death of Suleiman the Magnificent, and probably has some elements of fantasy. The author's playful preface to the original edition, with its brazen claims of an original Arabic text, puts this book squarely in the tradition of the "Chinoiserie" that swept over Europe after Galland's translation into French earlier in the century of "The Arabian Nights"."
