A dream story rather than high fantasy. Dollie Lane is a young schoolgirl. Her adventures are akin to those of Alice in Wonderland. As in many stories that feature children's fantasy-travel, including Wonderland, she wakes up on the last page or two. Dollie wakes when mother calls her to come in and go to bed (end p232).
