Margaret Sherwood Libby, NY Herald Tribune 1959-11-22 pE16 "Looking Glass Library", notes that all are 5 x 7-1/2 inches, "board-bound and sturdier than most paperbacks"; this is one of four among ten with new illustrations. (That article is illustrated by one of the Lonette drawings for this volume.)
    • Probably this edition includes all of the original prefaces and footnotes. Advance notice of the series (NY Times 1959-08-15 p15) reports "original unabridged text and fifteen to 300 black-and-white line drawings within the text". Thomas Lask, NY Times 1959-11-01 pBRA59 "Repeat performances", concludes a review of the ten volumes: "Special mention should be made of Andrew Lang's Blue Fairy Book, which is virtually a reissue of the edition Lang brought out in 1889. By now these stories have entered the literary bloodstream of all children. Here are the stories of Goldilocks, Little Red Riding Hood and Rumpelstiltskin in the versions Lang made famous." (emphasis mine) (But this ed. does not include the original illustrations.)
