    • HathiTrust Digital Library provides full view (black and white) of one copy with original cover: -- front cover -- title page   "With Illustrations" (nowhere credited)   "New York and London ... 1899" -- "Illustrations" lists 15 (frontispiece and 14 plates not included in the pagination) -- narrative, p[1]-[329] (first and last unnumbered) -- publisher advertisements, p[331-36]
    • The illustrations are 15 among 18 published in the 18-part serial. Most are legibly lettered "H. Lanos", many lettered "Acme" (the engraver presumably); both signatures are remarkably square. Cover illustration is that facing p196, "The Aeropile". Its publication in the US serial (alone viewed at HathiTrust): Harper's Weekly 1899-03-18 p263. Frontispiece (image 8) "The Destruction of the Aeropile" illustrates the last serial instalment (Part 18 of 18). Its publication in the US serial: Harper's Weekly 1899-05-06 page 451. Indeed, it illustrates the latter part of the last instalment, which is cut entirely in the 1899 revision; not represented in the text published here! That is serial Chapter XXVI, "From the Hill-Side": A shepherd discovers Graham badly injured, and another man dead, after the crash of two aeropiles.
