  • There are now two prefaces, both in Vol. I only. The new Preface to the Second Edition, pp. (ix)-x (viewed at HathiTrust) thanks correspondents and states that "narratives I should like to have given in this edition" are reserved "for some future occasion." It closes on two lines: "C.C. December 12th, 1848." (There is no such closing to the original Preface here or in the 1st ed., also viewed at HathiTrust.)
  • HathiTrust Digital Library provides full view of one copy from U California, both volumes apparently re-bound by the UC library. -- title page, v1 -- title page, v2 In the v1 "Index" (Contents, p[iii]), "Döppelgangers" is a change from "Doppelgangers" in the 1st ed., which is a correction to match the unchanged Chapter VIII heading, "Döppelgangers, or Doubles." Midway in that chapter, v1 p237, the running title changes from "Döppelgangers." (left and right) to "Döppelgangers" (left) and (right) "and Self-Seeing." Chapter X, "The Future That Awaits Us", ends on v1 p336, the last printed page. Chapter VI may be revised to incorporate the "Appendix to Chapter VI. Case of Colonel Townshend." (1st ed., v1 p421-22). As of 2020-02-15, page numbers below are confirmed. They match both the "Index" (Contents list) and text of both volumes.
