Note: The original title of this series is written 1Q84, but pronounced in Japanese Ichi-Kyū-Hachi-Yon (Revised Hepburn notation), noted ichi-kew-hachi-yon on the cover of the Japanese edition, and transcribed in kana as いちきゅうはちよん. It relies on a pun based on Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, number 9 being prononced kyū in Japanese.
