Note: As a child, Mingzhao Xu immigrated to the United States from China without knowing English. She learned the language by watching sitcoms and listening to pop songs on the radio. Now she brushes up on her Cantonese and Mandarin in her free time. One of her greatest joys in life is using fiction to highlight the humor, challenges and pathos of her childhood.
