David Davies

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?56871; The collection you added recently is unlikely to be by the artist from 50 years earlier so some variant should be added to his name and the contents of his collection. --Username (talk) 20:00, 3 December 2023 (EST)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Missed this when I entered the pub in 2022. Here are the disambiguated author bibliographies, David Davies and David Davies (artist). John Scifibones 08:41, 4 December 2023 (EST)

Kaleidoscope Century

Adding note to Kaleidoscope Century.Jim (talk) 12:19, 25 December 2023 (EST)

No problem, thanks for the heads up. John Scifibones 12:28, 25 December 2023 (EST)

LibriVox entries

Just a heads up. I have been adding and modifying LibriVox titles. For the sake of consistency, I have been using your formatting style in the notes but, for time and energy constraints, I have been putting only the link to the LibrVox pages and not the Internet Archive. The only change I have made to any of the titles you have edited is to put the version number in the pub title without changing the title data. If you are not okay with that, I can change them back. I have been going backward through the titles narrated by Mark Nelson, one of the best. I will probably be focusing on Phil Chenevert after that. Some nice work you are doing. I was entering the LibriVox titles until I went into a long hibernation.--swfritter (talk) 19:14, 3 January 2024 (EST)

Thanks for the heads up. I was working my way through the existing publication records alphabetically, don't remember where I left off. Perhaps you'll cleanup the rest. Re: version numbers. I don't favor disambiguating anything other than generic titles (editorial, foreword, about the author, etc.). Hence, the note. John Scifibones 09:05, 4 January 2024 (EST)
You might like this. Using google sheets and some sql magic I published a spreadsheet with entries for the titles Mark Nelson has narrated.--swfritter (talk) 13:46, 7 January 2024 (EST)
I have also reverted the pub titles to the way you entered them and will use the same logic in the future to keep things consistent.--swfritter (talk) 17:13, 9 January 2024 (EST)

Breakfast Borgias

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5880992; It's not a better image because it doesn't have the top left text of the actual cover. Many Amazon images are pre-pub and don't match the final ones. Can you restore the cover I added? Thanks. --Username (talk) 10:28, 20 February 2024 (EST)

Eric chapbook

I have made the CHAPBOOK conversion submissions for Eric and hope I haven't missed anything. Please check them out if you can. TerokNor (talk) 14:54, 22 February 2024 (EST)

Looks good to me, CHAPBOOK & Novella. Thanks for taking on this project, John Scifibones 15:53, 22 February 2024 (EST)

Contacting Primary Verifiers for book edits.

Hi John.

I assume this is how I communicate with you and other users here on isfdb.org.

So, first of all, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

I have a couple of questions.

  1. When I want to edit a book, and there are dozens of primary verifiers, do I need to contact each and every one of them?
  2. I see that some of the books I have looked up mention items such as maps, drawing, art work etc. as part of the book's entry here on isfdb. Would advertisement inserts be something to note as well?

Greetings. Yes, this is the correct way to start a thread on a talk page. I'm always available for questions.
Question 1 - You need to contact all primary verifiers with limited exception.
Certain types of edits will be approved without notification
  • Adding relevant weblinks to a publication or title.
  • Adding external id's, WorldCat for example.
  • Adding to the note field or correcting a typo (note field only).
Some editors post a note at the top of their talk page with instructions regarding when you need to notify them.
  • Willem_H. only requires notification of certain changes.
  • Rtrace has a separate page for certain types of edits.
Most reviewers will approve changes involving obviously inactive verifiers, even without notification.
It doesn't hurt to leave messages. If a verifier doesn't respond in a reasonable amount of time, your submission can still be approved. In all cases, make it clear, in the note to moderator, what you are changing. All PV's will receive a change notification. If your note is clear, they don't have to search to see what you changed.
Question 2 - What is or isn't includable is enumerated in Content Information. This should get you started, ask if anything isn't clear. John Scifibones 16:00, 17 March 2024 (EDT)

Secondary verification sources.

Hi John. Another question re: secondary sources.

I've read the pages I could find regarding secondary sources, and it looks to me that all the secondary sources permitted by isfdb are those from published works. I had Currey's reference book at one time, and it only covers up to a certain date, but Lloyd Currey still sells books and there is info on his website regarding first editions, etc. Can we add information form a website such as Lloyd Currey's to make a secondary verification? And and if so, how is this information added to isfdb?

Just thought of something else.

I'm in the process of selling off my collection. How do I change any primary verifications I have to transient should the book sell and no longer be in my possession? —The preceding unsigned comment added by ‎ One72guy (talkcontribs) 10:42, March 21, 2024

Thanks for the inquiry:
  • Please sign all your posts. The easiest way is by entering ~~~~ (four tildes), the software will make the conversion.
  • Changing from a permanent verification to a transient verification is straightforward. Go to the publication page and select 'Verify This Pub' from the 'Editing Tools:' menu. Move the radio button from permanent verification to transient verification and select 'Verify'.
  • A 'Secondary Verification' is a specific action just like a 'Primary Verification' As you point out, there specific sites which qualify as a source. In no way does this limit these sites as the only sources of legitimate information. Of course Lloyd Currey's website is a legitimate source. The key is to note what information came from what site in the publication or title notes as appropriate. Just a few that I use: author websites, publisher websites, internet archive, award websites, foreign bibliographic websites. The source of valuable information is almost unlimited. I'll stress again, DOCUMENT YOUR SOURCES"!
Hope this helps, John Scifibones 11:32, 21 March 2024 (EDT)
